Kellum. ■ HINTINGTON. Wr. Va.. April 7.— With the success of Lorena Marcellia in the fourth race the Jones Stock Farm Stable scored its third victory of the present meeting. Incidentally it marked the shortest priced winner in the history of this course as the daughter of Seth figured at 1 to 10 in the straight mutuels. Jockey L. Wilson had the mount on Lorena Marcellia and he rated the mare behind Roy C. to the final eighth. When called on the daughter of Seth responded with a rush that quickly brought her alongside and then by the leader to win by a length with plenty of speed in reserve. It was Roy C. that set the pace, but it was only on sufferance and he proved easy for the favorite when challenged, though he had no trouble retaining second place from Lady Choco, which made a resolute bid in the stretch. Jockey J. Kellum, who rode Banker Brown to victory in the first race, made it a double when he piloted Dingo to an easy success in the fifth after leading throughout. Amber Fly, a keen factor from the start, was doing his best to outlast Clever Seth for second place. T. W. Hemingways colors were in evidence at tne Tri-State Fair Grounds this afternoon when Frank Gailor carried the red sleeves, ! black jacket to victory in the sixth race, j j I which attracted the best field of the card. I He led all the way, but had to be ridden out in the closing stages to stall off The Falconer. The latter made a determined bid an eighth out, only to tire near the end. In the final drive Arragosa outstayed Firma- j ment for third place. Kellum rode Frank ! l Gailor and it marked his third success of the ; afternoon. | Trainer Charlie Ross saddled his second ; ■ winner when Nettie May got home by a nar- row margin in the seventh. Midnight Stories cut out the early running, with the winner i in close pursuit. Entering the stretch Cap-tata Adams closed with a ruh on the inside and the Hemingway representative was hard pressed to retain her slight advantage. I Most favorable conditions once more pre- j j vailed and the attendance showed improvement over yesterday. | After being closely followed by Floy Lilly ! to the stretch. Banker Brown drew out dur- ; ing the final eighth to an easy victory in the ; initial dash. Floy Lilly was tiring rapidly j j j near the end and was hard pressed to save ! , second place from High Priestess, which lost j j much ground entering the stretch. Making his debut in the saddle at this meeting jockey C. OMahoney piloted P. T. | i Barnum to a handy victory in the second i race. Although he acted none too well at : the post the veteran rider got P. T. Barnum | ; away in front and he never left the result in 1 i serious doubt. Lasses White retained second i place from Red Seth, which came from the ! j rear during the run home. ■ Antiquity, after racing Winchester and ; 1 Fame into defeat, held her opponents safe ! la the clo.ing stages of the third race, j Prince Direct made up considerable ground ; the last quarter and earned second place from ; Mike Morrissey, which also closed a wide gap in the stretch.
