DAY OF SPIRITED RACING i Finishes at Tijuana Thursday of Spectacular Order. t Great Finisher Races Up to His ITamfr-Sunny Maid Beats Miss Oakland Narrowly. SAN DIEGO, Calif., April 16.— Some of the most spirited racing of the week was witnessed at Tijuana this afternoon, the finishes in several instances being of the sensational order. This was particularly true In the fifth, in which the proverbial blanket would have covered the first five horses at the end. The finish saw Great Finisher, Serena. Letter F., Rhinegold and Rosa Atkin stretched across the track in almost perfect alignment, with only the judges able to separate them. It was a sparkling finish that aroused the enthusiasm of the goodly sized crowd in attendance. Rhinegold set a fast pace, with Serena in nearest pursuit, but Great Finisher, living up to the name, came with a terrific burst of speed and, taking advantage of one opening after another in the stretch, got through to win by a neck. Serena was well up from the start and gained steadily in the last quarter. Letter F. went the long way and finished fast. Rhinegold began bearing out on the last turn and finished on the outside. There was a sparkling finish that came with the runing of the opening dash, in which Sunny Maid beat Miss Oakland by a head, while the latter had but a nose margin over Sannatuga for second place. Sunny Maid waited on the the pacemakers till straighened out in the stretch and then finished fast under strong riding, just getting up. Miss Oakland was right there all the way and finished gamely. Sannatuga was a forward contender at all stages and appeared the winner at the paddock but tired. A big upset marked the running of the second race when Blackfoot, the favorite, finished unplaced, while outsiders were first and second at the end of the five-eighths. Ravenwing followed the pacemaker persistently and wore her down at the paddock to win with a bit left. Cuba was forced wide on both turns and had much interference to overcome and closed with a fast rush. Shasta Rapids set the pace to the stretch, then tired. Amackassin loomed up threateningly on the last turn and then tired and swerved badly in the final drive. In a driving finish De Land got up and outlasted Wild Thoughts in the three-quarters of the third race, while Dan Arvi finished third. It was Jenks that set the pace and led to well within the stretch, but gave way readily when challenged and after the smoke of battle had cleared was found in fourth place. Thistlewood outclassed his rivals for speed in the sixth race. He was under restraint all the last part, Coffield had no mishaps and proved gamef than Knighthood. Bear Shot was badly outrun to the last turn when she came with a strong rush on the outside and would have been second in another stride. Knighthood tired racing in pursuit of the winner. Miss Oakland was claimed from the first race by W. H. Tingle for ,100.
