FINE OUTLOOK AT AKRON Over 400 Horses Already on Grounds With More to Come When Huntington Closes. AKRON, Ohio, April 16.— With over 400 head of horses already quartered on the grounds and many more scheduled to arrive during the latter part of this week, prospects for the sixteen days annual spring meeting of the Akron Racing Association, which is scheduled to open at Northampton Park Wednesday, April 22, are extremely encouraging. In addition to the large array of thoroughbreds already on the scene at the popular local three-quarters mile course, word has been received that a special express train containing 250 head will be shipped here J from Huntington, W. Va., following the conclusion of racing at that point Saturday. In order to accommodate the large influx of racing material contracts were let last week for the construction of two additional stables, which will increase the capacity of the beautifully appointed Northampton course, so that over 650 horses can be accommodated. Purses for the local meeting will range from 00 to ,000, with a number of offerings at ?60i, 09 and , according to the program book which was issued recently. Handicaps carrying a purse of ,000 will be run on each of the three Saturdays during the tenure of the meeting in addition to at least one feature event which will be carded for decision each day.
