SARAZEN Sarazen, the acknowledged present day champion of the American turf, is scheduled to make his 1925 debut today at Havre de Grace. The champion American jockey Earle Sande has arrived at the Maryland track to ride Mrs. Vanderbilts wonderful racer and it is certain both horse and rider will receive a typical American ovation on their appearance on the course. Sarazen is reported in tip top condition. PAUMONOK HANDICAP Sarazen Assigned Top Weight of 129 Pounds for Feature — • Jamaicas Opening Stake Expected to Attract Bij Fi 4 of Fast Sprinters. NEW YORK, X. Y„ April 20.— Racing secretary Fred Rehberger of the Metropolitan Jockey Club has announced the weights for the Paumonok Handicap, the sprinting fix-tore that will feature the opening day of the regular racing season in this state — Wednesday, April 2S. The Paumonok, which has a -value of ,500. is one of the important races of the early spring and never fails to attract a crowd. • Mr. Yosburgh had a fine field for his consideration and has done a creditable piece of work m the Paumonok. Naturally Sarazen occupies the place of honor, with 123 pounds. Snrita an impost is hia by right after the brilliant campaign of 1324. when he was a BHisatJonal performer at all distances up to a mile and a quarter, defeating over the latter rout? Kprnaxd and others in a splendid race for the third of the International series. WISE COUSTSELLOB FAST. That Saraxen is two pounds better than Wise Counsellor at three-quarters is a con-ctasioai thai the Paumonok must confirm, as the Everglade Stabies ©oU. himself the winner of the first International race over Epi-nard and other fleet: ones, is a sprinter of the highest attainments. Like Sarazen. he has wintered well and is regarded as a sure starter. Ladkin. winner of the second of the International races, is held a pound below Wise Coamsrrior by Mr. Voaburgh. The late Major Betmontt always contended that while l.adkin possessed a bish turn of speed, he had the cut of a stayer and he expected him to develop into a cup horse. Should he. Sarazen and Wise Counsellor all go to the post in the Paaamonok. the outcome of the race will settle many arguments. While WoTthman. at 123; Bracadale. 122; Goshawk. 12ft, and Shuffle Along.
