Chicago has gone Derby wild. In the loop, at all the principal hotels and out lying | community centers, the coming Kentucky Derby is a popular topic of conversation. The blood of our sportsmen is tingling and jthe women who are fortunate enough to be able to go to Louisville, are deriving a real i thrill from the anticipation of the great event Plans are all set and all during next j week, special trains have been scheduled to j leave over the various roads for three, four j and five-day trips. Many have arranged a stop over at both French Lick and West Baden, where special games of golf will be | played before moving on to Louisville, where I they will arrive on the morning of Saturday, I May 16. Reservations at West Baden and ; French Lick are at a premium, and in some | instances the complete train will park intact and will furnish meals and sleeping quarters right on the side tracks. The Edgewater Beach Hotel Special will be under the personal supervision of manager W. M. Dewey and comprise hundreds of ] guests from the North Shore hostelry, in- j eluding Joseph E. Bidwell, Jr., John T. Con-j nery and a number of Chicagos leading j sportsmen. The Riding Club of Chicago is not to be , outdone and along with the members of the Chicago Athletic Club and the Illinois Athletic Club, both of which are running specials, the Hamilton Club, the All American Club and the McCabe City Hall Special will be among the departures from here for old Kentucky. The biggest influx to Louisville, without a question, will be over the Sportsmen Sep-I cials, which are leaving on Thursday and Friday nights. Up to the present a total of eleven special trains are scheduled to go to the Derby. It is estimated that about 20,000 will leave Chicago to see the great three-| year-old race.
