Kentucky Derby Favorite On Edge QUATRAIN LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 9. — Quatrain, present favorite for the Kentucky Derby, was worked a mile and an eighth immediately after the track was cleared of horses that started in the opening race. Originally it had been planned to work him a mile and a quarter, but the changed track conditions was responsible for decision to have him only go a mile and an eighth. He carried his full Derby weight, and was in hand for the entire distance. He began at the eighth post in the stretch and worked back to the finish cantering out leisurely to the three-quarter post. He finished well and showed no signs oi tiring, after the trial. The fractions and complete time for the mile and an eighth follow: Quarter, 25%; Half-mile, 49%; Three-quarters, 1:16%; Mile, 1:42%- Mile and an eighth, 1 :56%.
