HORSE HERCULES ATTACHED Stewards Disqualify Racer Until Legal Tangle Concerning Horse Is Settled. COLUMBUS, Ohio. May D.-The stewards were confronted with a peculiar case. Last year G. W. L. Willard claimed Hercules at Maple Heights and has owned him since, Friday J. H. Barton of Chicago attached the horse in the Common Pleas Court on a claim of ownership dating back several years. He gave bond for ,400 and Willard surrendered the horse to the sheriff. The horse has changed hands several times by the claiming route and Willard claimed the horse in good faith. The stewards were powerless to protect a seemingly innocent party, but promulgated the following rule: "The horse Hercules is disqualified from racing where the rules of the Ohio Racing Commission, Incorporated, are respected until the Common Pleas Court of Columbus has heard the case on its merits and passed finally on the ownership of the horse."
