Kentucky Derby Flashes LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 9. The advance guard of the eastern challengers for the Kentucky Derby will reach the battle ground of next Saturdays great conflict on Sunday afternoon, when Prince of Bourbon and Sweeping Away will arrive from Pimlico in charge of trainer James McClelland. Both colts are scheduled to carry the colors of the Xalapa Farm Stable of E. F. Simms in the big race. They have both been racing prominently on the Mary-Ian tracks this* spring and are regarded as being among the best that are coming from the Atlantic seaboard for me race. Racing secretary Will Shelley was requested by wire Saturday to have stalls ready for the c Its. Mr. Shelley was also advised that trainer McClelland is bringing the filly Happy Thoughts to race hero. She is an intended starter in a race next Tuesday. William Duke, who saddled Coventry, winner of the Preakness Stakes, wired secretary Shelley that he was shipping Flying Ebony, a stablemate of Coventry, to Churchill Downs for the Derby and that the colt would arrive Monday morning. H. G. Shimp, owner of the International Stable, that includes the Kentucky Derby candidate Mark Master, arrived from Chicago for the opening and also io confer with trainer George Walker regarding the chances of starting his colt in the Derby. Trainer Walker still has hopes that the son of Luke McLuke will be in condition to fill his engagement in the race. Mr. Shimp returned to Chicago after the races, but will be back to witness the Derby. Mr. G. Frank Coissant. owner of Kentucky Cardinal and other horses being trained by M. F. Shapoff, arrived from Chicago, accompanied by Mrs. Croissant. He inspected his Derby colt and expressed entire satisfaction over his condition. Mr. Croissant will be host to a large party of his Chicago friends on Derby day. Needle Gun and Borderland, Derby candidates, worked a mile and an eighth. Needle Gun went the distance in 1:59, running the first mile in 1:45. Borderland went the distance in 2:01. The Kentucky Jockey Clubs eastern representative wired Colonel Winn Saturday that the following horses now in the East will be shipped to start in the Derby: Backbone, Chantey, Swope, Voltaic, Single Foot, By Hisself, Prince of Bourbon and Sweeping Away. H. P. Headleys Derby eligible Almadel, which finished third in the Preakness, will be shipped to Churchill Downs and is due to arrive Monday morning.
