PROCYON BEATS CHLORIS • Scores in Rousing Finish in the Parliament Handicap. 1 Ottawa Trark Still Depp and Holding — Majority of Races Furnish Keenly Contested Sport. OTTAWA, Ont., June 4.— The Connaught Park Jockey Club offered as the main attraction for todays racing the Parliament Handicap for Canndlan-brcd horses, to which a purse of ,000 was added. It furnished a good contest with Procyon the winner over Chloris by a length. Procyon was ridden by J. Iiutwell. who put up a rousing finish after trailing off Chloris until the final eighth. When it fame to a finish Putwell put up one of his old-time rides and, in the last few strides, passed the tiring pacemaker. El Jcsmar was third, eight lengths back. There was but little improvement in track conditions, the going still being deep and heavy next to the inside rail. Small fields rultd, but they were well matched and a majority of the races furnished keen contests. J. r . Mooney rode two of the afternoons winners, Stroller and Display. The sixth race fell to Tiger Tim. Rour-assa had the mount and he used good judgment in keeping on the outside the entire way, where the footing was best. Bona Fide was second. He was gaining on the winner at the end. Goldlands and Trail Blazer were used up making the pace. A stirring finish came with the running of the first race when Marjorie C. came from behind in the stretch run to wear down the tiring Rhinestone. It was only in the last stride that Marjorie C. got up to win by a nose. Gymnast was third, five lengths back. Stroller made his rivals look cheap in the second race. Mooney rushed him to the front when the start came and, opening up an easy lead, rated him under restraint until straightened out In the home stretch, where he drew away until he had a five lengths lead at the end. Alice I-ang, an outsider, finished fast on the outside and just managed to get up in time to beat the tiring Foyle for second place. Display was the winner in the third, for which he was an odds-on favorite. He ran coupled with Indian Tales as the Salmon-Wilson entry. In the early running Muffet drew away into a long lead and was six lengths in front of Display rounding the far turn. Kntering the home stretch Mooney began driving Display and he closed with a game effort. In the final eighth he wore down the tiring leader and won going away by two lengths and a half.
