Latest Turf Gossip From Fair Latonia LATONIA, Ky., June 4. Two of the horses that J. E. Widener shipped to Jack Keene at Latonia arrived with high temperatures and for a time their condition was regarded as critical. This morning there was a turn for the better and the horses are progressing finely. The installation of portable boxes has lm-, proved sanitary conditions around the La-; tonia stables this season. Instead of allowing the used straw to accumulate in huge I piles, as formerly, it is now hauled away : each morning. The new system also mini-! mizes the danger from fire. Kverett Class arrived from Lexington with | four young horses belonging to R. L. Sulli- j van. They comprise Phils Sister, a three-I year-old. and the two-year-olds, Hyacinth, Liberty and Income. Jockey D. Connelly has signed a contract j to ride for Jack Baker for the remainder of I tho Latonia meeting. Connelly has also agreed to ride whatever T. P. Hayes starts in the Cincinnati Trophy and Harold Stakes. W. K. Applegates two-year-old Smacker, winner of the Tijuana Futurity, has contracted a bad case of pneumonia, Theo Muellers Fusilcer came out of his winning race at Churchill Downs with a bad ankle and has had to be fired for the ailment. Jockey J. A. Mooney is still confined to his home in Louisville, recovering from an operation to his right ear. colt by Huon — Loch Linnhe, that is in training in the barn of Howard Oots at Latonia. G. F. Croissant, who came over today to witness Kscapaders victory, returned tonight to Chicago.
