PRICEMAKER SCORES i Accounts for Fox Valley Handicap, Feature at Aurora. i Monastery Makes Good for New Owner — Third Eace Furnishes a Thrilling Finish. 4 AITRORA, 111., June 5.— Taking command at the rise of the barrier and leading for the entire way. Prioemaker, racing in the colors of C. O. Wright, was returned winner of the Fox Valley Handicap, feature attraction of todays program at Exposition Park. J. Goughs Publisher was second and C. Lawrences Ponjola finished third, with Slice, racing in the interests of L. T. Cooper, bringing up in the rear. The winner equaled the track record of 1:12% for the distance, held by Lady Fox. Tbere was no delay at the barrier and Prieemaker showed in front immediately, closely followed by Publisher. After going | | a half mile the ultimate winner had opened i . up a four-length lead on his closest competitor and it appeared that it would be Just a canter for him. but Hoagland was hard at ■work on Publisher and the latter, racing gamely, cut the winners advantage down to a , i length and a half at the finish and was still ! gaining. Ponjola always raced in third position, while Slice, the Cooper hope, never figured seriously and was last. A fine off-day crowd was present and a breeze which blew into the stands tended to | relieve the intense heat. The track was in | lightning fast condition and good time was made in the various contests. OPEXER TO TICKER. Beacon Manor Stables Ticker was returned the winner of the opening dash. Fred Kinney | j finishing second and Winnie OWynn third. j The field was away to a perfect start and before they had gone a half mile.Polyohresty had alien command and daylight showed between him and the others. Winnie OWynn rid Fred Kinney were in close pursuit, however, with Ticker running strrngly in fifth I ositlon. When the stretch was reached the : leader began to tire and Winnie OWynn t moved up on even terms with him. Poly- chresty. ired midway of stretch and Ticker j came with a fine burst of speed to pass his; rival and win with ease. Fred Kinney out- j gamed Winnie O Wynn in the last stride fori second place. Monastery, which A- Pelleteri claimed yesterday, made good at the first asking for his new owner when under a good ride . hy Montgomery he lasted long enough to beat Green Spring a half lengh In the deci nd race. The winner raced to the front soon after the start and opened up what ! appeared to be a safe lead but Green Sprins pained steadily through the stretch and the Friar Hock gelding was forced to a drive to hold him safe at the end. Shining Gold, which had been prominent from the start ! Just lasted to save third place from the fast finishing War Zone. The latter showed a fine performance being outrun in the early stages and closing with a rush. This race will no doubt put him on edge for the long distance races in which he will undoubtedly be j entered later in the meeting. SPECTACULAR FINISH. The best finish of the meeting came with the running of the third event, when Blen-nerhasset, Atossa and Elizabeth K. raced into the stretch heads apart in the order named. Blennerhassett was rushed into command soon after the start, with Atossa hanging on closely. They raced in this manner until well into the stretch when Elizabeth K.. which had met with early interference. moved up fast and twenty yards from the end it was difficult to decide which would be the winner, but Blennerhassett was game and stuck it out to be returned victor by a head, while Anssa was only a nose In front of Elizabeth K. at the finish. Trapnet and Battle Shot were away rather slowly and the former showed a creditable performance. Mabel C. raced in front all the way to take the fourth and win in faster time than was made by Blennerhassett in the previous race. Porto de Oro was second, with Yoohoo third. The winner was never in serious danger if defeat and at the end was two lengths in advance of her company. Porto de Oro acted badly at the start, but began well and raced in closest pursuit for the entire way, while Yoohoo experienced litle difficulty disposing of the remainder of the contestants. W.
