Johnson Steals Victory With Broadway Jones in a Sensational Finish. i LATONIA. Ky.. June 5.— E. R. Bradley, master of Idle Hour Farm, enjoyed a field day at Latonla this afternoon when three of his representatives scored victories In spectacular finishes. Superior riding skill of jockeys H. Meyer and G. Johnson were contributing factors in the success of the Bradley colors. The diminutive G. Johnson was particularly busy astride Broken Toy and Broadway Jones. The third winner was Bubbling Over. Johnson displayed skill on Broadway Jones that would have done credit to a master rider. The diminutive youngster, who Is under contract to J. W. Marchmount but loaned to E. R Bradley, snatched a purse away from B. Harvey on Hopeless In sen-| sational fashion. Broadway Jones was to all appearances beaten after he had shown the way to the last eighth. Johnson went to the whip, but it seemed unavailing, for Hopeless, moving along easily, passed him and was In a fair way to win off. Harvey, however, grew careless with victory assured j and began taking things easy. Johnson, ! however, persisted in his furious riding of ! Broadway Jones and he succeeded in bringing up in the last striue to down Hopeless. It was a stupid blunder on the part of Harvey to let Hopeless he beaten. BUBBLING OVER SARBOWIT. Bubbling Over, unbeaten and a double winner before his start today, was a pronounced favorite in the sixth race. He appeared to outclass his opponents, though some good : youngsters contested with him. His success was by a close margin and it was mostly due to the good riding that Meyer gave him. He got him away fast and took command at once, but he was pursued steadily by My Colonel and the latter continued gaining in the stretch and at one stage looked to be the winner, but near the end he began boring out and Bubbling Over", maintaining an even course and holding on gamely through his jockeys hard urging, won by a neck. Some disgruntled ones started a demonstration for My Colonel but they were sadly out of tune in their contention that My Colonel had won. It was not even a close finish as close finishes are regarded. At t.iat had Connelly not rid-i den My Colonel wide and caused consider-I able loss of ground for the Wiedemann colt. he might have reversed the decision with Bubbling Over. The winner and My Colonel are both good colts and were under a furious drive during the last eighth. The time of the race, :59%, marked a sparkling per- formance on the part of both youngsters. Broken Toy annexed the opening race. She was benefited by the clear course she had. Johnson kept her clear of interference and when straightened in the stretch she drew away to win well in hand, with Lady Hour-less in second place and WMta Wings third. There were twelve starters in the race and most of them suffered keenly. Friend par-I ticularly, by the rough tactics of some of the riders. J. Heupel, on Kublai Khan. seemed to be one of the gravest offenders. Extreme heat was again the rule this afternoon, but for a time a storm threatend. Dark clouds and a light fall of rain came im-I mediately after the running of the third race. but the sprinkle was of short duration. The attendance, considering the extreme heat, was a good one. FRANCES LOUISE BY A WOSE. The sixth race brought with It a spectacu-i lar finish, with Frances Louise just lasting to win by a nose from the fast finishing Rosa H., and Blue Sprite also got in the gaining like a whirlwind. Frances Louise waa i grouped with others in the field and It was responsible for that usually held lowly gronp ; being the favored ones. The dozen in the i race were closely grouped and some inter -j ft-rence suffered in the early stages prevented them running to their best form. One of the I sufferers was Twister, who had to be taken I back and ridden wide. Rocky was an unexpected victor in the | third race. He won in runaway style from . San Silk, which at one time had a lead of | ten lengths, but raced fast in the stretch. Ocean Current and Neat Girl were the favored ones here, but both showed dull performances. Ocean Current quitting hadl/ and Neat Girl seemingly refusing to do hr b. a t and racing wide for the entire way. ! Julia Lee, a neglected one, finished in third pl.ice. Harry Payno Whitneys Sandhurst trj-,umphed handily from Oh Susanna in the fourth race, a three-quarters, which brought to the post some fairly good ones. Sandhurst, lightly weighted, forced Oh Susanna closely until rounding into the stretch and I then started to come away, but Mergler, - n Oh Susanna, took the Camden filly out HMD I Continued on twentieth page. BRADLEYSHELD DAY , Continued from first psfe. the rail and subjected Sandhurst to sharp i interference. Sandhurst overcame It quickly and drew away In the last sixteenth to win .veil in hand. Postillion, after a slow ba-f-imiing gained fast and finished well, but missed wearing down Oh Susanra. Jockey Meyer also won tho closing race. He was astride MInto II, that former crack and holder of an American record, which la ! now eleven years old, showing he Is still possessed • of good speed by staying closely to i Fanny De Coursy for half a mile, and ufter molng Into the lead, stuck to his task gamely • and held Mako Up safe during the stjetct. , Mako lp raced as if best of the others and ! I finished well. Fanny De Coursy just lasted i for third place.
