HAWTHORNES FIXED POLICY Judge Murphy Outlines Methods to Be Followed — Brings Notable Entries From the East. LATONIA, Ky., Juno 5.— Joseph A. Murphy, general manager of the Hawthorne track, who is here in the interests of the stakes which closed Saturday, asked Daily Racing Form to publish a definite answer to irony inquiries from horsemen and others of this associations policy in the light of pending legislation in Illinois. "Strict obedience to law will be the continued policy of the association." he said. "If a mutnel bill is passed, we will use the mutuets. If it is not, we shall, as last year, take no official recognition of betting except to make sure that everyone lives strictly to judge Sundays decision. If legislation fails, we shall probably at a later day attempt to get a further construction from some court of record of the present statutes." Judge Murphy brought with him from Belmont Purl; the entries of American Flag, Silver Fox and By Hisself in the Chicago Derby and William Duke has mailed the entry of Flying Ebony direct to Chicago. As the entries of Quatrain and Hedgefenoe had already been received, the stake has secured every three-year-old winner of note except Coventry, and Mr. Duke told Judge Murphy that he did not expect to keep the colt in training. Master Charlie is also entered, but is turned out at Saratoga and will probably not reach the races until fall. Judge Murphy said: "Eastern trainers regard American Flag, Siver Fox and By Hisself as the three-year-olds of the year. The consensus of opinion places American Flag at the top. although many shrewd judges regard Silver Fox as the destined horse of the year. I saw him run at Belmont Park and he looks and races like a champion might American Flag, I understand, has many of the characteristics of his illustrious sire, except smaller and with less early speed. All three colts are in able hands. Judge Murphy also has among others, the entries of Altawood, Wise Counsellor, Mad Play, Sarazcn and Chilhowee in the Chicago Special, one of the few weight-for-age races offered in the West It carries an added value of ,20,000. The Swenko, Bostwick, Vivaudou, a division of the R T. Wilson-Salmont stable and others will be shipped from New York. Judge Murphy spent a busy day at Latonia and announced that Chicago would have a fine representation of Kentucky horscsmen.
