CENTERP01NT TO CATALAN i Makes Good in Easy Fashion in Belmonts Chief Offering. ♦ Follies Winner by Close Margin In Damsel Pars* — Green Blazes Outlasts Dona- rlta in a Spirited Finish. • NEW YORK. N. T.. June 10— The Center-point, which was awarded the position of honor on the pro.srram at Belmont Park this afternoon, resulted in an easy victory for the Bedford Farm Stables Catalan, ridden by jockey Eddie Ambrose. Moonraker raced Into second place, while R I* Gerrys Prime Minister was third. Catalan, on the strength of his s-howins in the Suburban Handicap last Saturday, was accorded the bulk of support and he justified the confidence placed j i in him by winning in an easy manner under . stout restraint. The start was good, following but little | j delay at the barrier. Moonraker was quickly hustled into the lead, with Prime Minister in j second place. Ambrose was content to rate I Catalan within easy striking distance of the leaders. Rounding the far turn Catalan was sent through an opening on the inner rail and began to wear down the flying Moonraker. He quickly passed Prime Minister and when turning for home caught Moonraker. The latter offered stubborn resistance, but Ambrose had something in reserve and when well inside the eighth post assumed the lead and from there on had Catalan under restraint. Moonraker held on well and lind a big advantage over the tirin? Prime Minister. Sunsini did not race to his best form and was probably short, while Vigil was making his first start following a long absence from racing. The Preakness I winner of two years back was a distant trailer throughout. GOOD TIME HUNG UP. Despite the drenching which the track received last evening it dried out rapidly and was pronounced fast. Good time was hung up in the various races. The crowd was well up to the Wednesday average. South Wind, ridden by jockey L. McDer-mott 1 and racing for Mrs. W. M. Jeffords. was an easy winner of the opening race of the day. which engaged a band of two-year-olds at five-eighths through the straightaway. At the end she was leading E. M. Prices Cherub by a two length margin, while Frederick Johnsons Rare Grit was third. There was considerable delay at the barrier, but the start was a good one. The field raced closely bunched during the early stages, and when well past the opening to the main track McDermott called upon his mount. South Wind bounded to the front and quickly disposed of her opponents and was going away at the end. Cherub showed a high flight of early speed during the first part, but gave way to the winner and at the end was doing his best to stall off the fast finishing Rare Grit, which came with a rush on the inside. STIRRING STRETCH BATTLE. The Damsel Purse furnished a stirring finish in which G. A. Cochrans Follies was winner by a narrow margin over W. J. Salmons Chrysalis, while R. L. Gerrys Enslaved was third. A field of ten paraded for the race and the start found Glister the quickest to begin and she set a fast pace. Follies and Chrysalis were kept in close attendance with the latter on the inside. I Through the stretch Glister gave way and I Chrysalis drew out. An eighth from the finish she appeared all over a winner, but Follies came with a rush on the outside and | was up in the closing strides. Enslaved ! closed some ground from a slow beginning to be a fast closing third. A rather cheap band of two-year-olds faced the starter in the third race and Jockey J. Maiben landed Ral Parrs Green Blazes home in a drive over the Everglade Stables Donarita, while S. Louis was third with Little Blazes. The winner displayed good speed from the sart and, racing true, managed to outlast Donarita. The latter came with a rush through the final quarter i and was gradually wearing the winner down. Little Blaze was bumped and shuffled [ back at the start, but closed a big gap , to be a fast-going third. I G. P. Fought, who recently claimed Long | Foint received a dividend on his investment when G. Hudgins landed him home a winner in a mild drive over the one mile fifth race. "W. J. Boths Skirmish was second while S. Louis Scoop was third. Maib-n astride Scoop displayed alertness at the barrier and was away before the others. Scoop was allowed to draw away into a long lead. Lon£ Point raced after him while the others Ml closely bunched. Long Point moved up witn determination rounding the far turn and when straightened out in the stretch west. to the front under punishment and switv -I | to the inner rail. Skirmish came from ii-back j I to outstay the tiring Scoop for Um place. Trainer R. A. Smith and jockey L. McDermott completed a double when W. M. Jeffords Man o Wars Kdith Cavell was an easy winner of the final race of the afternoon. ; Edith Cavell dominated the running throughout and McDermott was content to rate her along in front. Herodiade from the stable of W. it. Coe raced into second place while W. ZitgUrs Flcchita was third.
