j i . | j j I I 1 GO FOIN IN A THRILLER Carries Jones Stock Farm Colors to Narrowly Achieved Success in Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate. OHAHA. Neb., June 10.— The Jones Stock Farm Stable colors, which have been cutting such a wide swath in the racing at Ak-Sar-IVn field, were again prominent today when the green and white silks were home first in the Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate, a dash of three-quarters, while bedecking the Nevada-bred Go Foin. Only four horses answered the call of the bugle in this salient feature and Go Foin drew the bulk of the speculation and ruled an odds-on favorite. Those that figured the son of Atheling II. and Thrifty to score an easy victory, were treated to a thriller when the favorite barely managed to squeeze home by a short head. It was Belle of Elizabethtown that was the first to show in front when the barrier rose, but her margin of lead was a small one as the proverbial blanket would have covered the quartet as they raced down the back stretch. It was then that Brilliant met with bad racing luck. He was caught in a jam and was forced to pull up. Turning into the stretch Go Foin made his move and in a few strides he had assumed command. However, victory was not rssured. for Brilliant had again struck his stride and was coming fast on the outside. Gross, astride of Go Foin, saw the danger and, with hands and heels, rode his mount hard. Inch by inch Brilliant crept up on him, but ere the end was reached the shapely head of Go Foin still showed in front and he was acclaimed the winner. Brilliant had an easy time of it defeating Belle of Elizabethtown for sec- ond money, while the latter fell heir to third place when Runolathe was pulled up. After the race a pretty ceremony took place in front of the judges stand when Miss Hoag-land. a beautiful native daughter of Omaha, draped the floral offering of the association around ihe neck of the winner and presented owners B. A. Jones and Nelson Updike with a handsome piece of silver plate suitably engraved to commemorate the occasion. Horse. maid and owners were treated to rousing cheers from the big crowd on hand as the horse was led away. Iolvo. racing for Mrs. J. Potter, scored his second victory in as many starts when he annexed the secondary feature, a gallop of an even mile. Polvo was in command at all stages of the jrurney. but at the end had to he sharply ridden to ward off the rush of Prince Tii Tii. All Over was third from the outclassed Eminent.
