Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of June II, I9D5. Racing in St. Louis will shift tomorrow fr-iin the Fair Grounds to Delmar Park. The officials of the Fair Grounds will serve at the , County track. Grazing on the lowlands in Arkansas, just across the river from Memphis, is the thirteen- ! year-old gelding Laurettiae, the winner of the Montgrmery Handicap of 1900 and the hore that carried the colors cf G. C. Bennett to their first notable victory on a Memphis track. Laureate has seen a varied career since achieving his most brilliant success in the classic event at Montgomery Park. At times during the last five years he has hauled various politicians over the cobblestones of Memphis and was later rescued by his owner from the life of a plow horse down in Mississippi. Laureate was then given away to a man who was expected to give him good care, but he re- I cently sold for 7.50. He is taking life easy new in Arkansas, Mr. Bennett having made arrangements that the old campaigner shall spend the remainder of his days in rest. Yesterday being the last Saturday of racirg at Union Park before the closing of the lid on racing in Missouri, the Union Park granl-stand held one of the largest crowds whr. Ii ever passed the gates. The entire racing stable of Mont Tennes is | advertised to be sold at auction in the paddo:k at Gravesend tomorrow.
