j s J | h | Probable Winners At Tijuana By SYSONBY SHASTA BUTTE— LA COM ETA— HAWK GOD. The Rrown Shasta Farm Stable has a practical monopoly on the two-year-old races at the border track and it is only natural that Shasta Butte is given the call in the first race. It is not because of the above, however, that this Solomon youngster is picked. He has been a frequent winner aifd is in the best of form at present HAWK GOO is considered best by the handieapper. but we do not believe, scanning his last effort, he is in the right shape to give SHASTA BUTTE pounds and a beating, therefore we put him third and take LA OOMF.TA to place. A good ride may take the latter close to the winners portion. SWAY— Sir PK R YISOR— SOLI ■ I NTE. Despite the fact SWAY is ten years old, he demonstrated he has all his old speed by running a slashing good race to be second to Golden Red a few days back. On that canter we like the old son of Vulcain to win the second. His impost is just enough to steady him and the route is well within his staying powers. SF PER VISOR is close to winning form and should cause SWAY most trouble. Racing luck may throw the race either way. SOLIMKXTE displayed high speed in his latest morning trial and appears a likely play for the show end of the purse. Throw out his recent efforts. A Ni KL A— BIG I N IHA X— J A PI MB. The third race seems to be made to order for ANGELA. He is fit as a fiddle for a gallop over four and a half furlongs. This trick always had great early speed but had to be tuned to the minute to carry it much beyond that distance. A glance at his last race will give an idea of how he steps along in the early stages. BIG INDIAN is his twin in that he also likes his races short and snappy. This one is aging and carrying on much beyond five furlongs is too much of a task for his weary legs. JAPIDEE U liked for the trey hole and has a possible chance to graduate from the nonwinners ranks. GREY ROCK— ASK JOHJf-SLY FOX. GREY ROOK has been knocking at the door recently and seems favorably placed to take brackets in the fourth. He was a bang-up second to Sonny Bunny Wedne-.day and the same sort of a race today should get the money. Throw out ASK JOHNS last one. It was in the nature of a prep race. He should do a lot better this arternoon. SLY FOX may be staling off but he figures to have enough speed on tap to be third to the above pair. SONNY BUNNY— BLACK PAT-BRONCO GIRL. SONXY BUNNY, ripe and trained to the minute, won last time out with 110 pounds up. Today in the fifth he is two pounds worse off and will be asked to go half a furlong farther. On that winning race he appears easily capable of carrying on Two pounds and an extra half do not appear enough to stop him. Contention should be furnished by BLACK PAT. Five-eighths should suit the gelding from the ground up. In his last he ran well to the five-eighths marker and then called it a day. BRONCO GIRL should save the show monev from the others. IS— MARINE CORPS— OUMBEOU DER. Dull speed in the early stages lost the last race for IS. When he straightened out in the stretch he came to life with a bang and made up a world of ground to be second to ROONEVILLE. If there had been five yards more to travel he would have nailed the winner. Much will depend on the ride he gets. A good start and the purse is in the bag. MARINE CORPS is racing into winning shape and may be second today He needs the race, however, for a final prep A slow start made RUMBEOUNDER look bad behind Royal Oak. but the race should be discarded. On the one previous he is taken for the short end. BATHILDE SETH— QUEEN BESS-PRINCESS BARREL!.. Although RATHILDE SKTH gets a bad break in the weights, being forced to pickup a matter of eleven pounds off her last race, she looks like the best play of the afternoon. She will have QUEEN BESS and PRINCESS DARRELL to beat but trainer Harper has this miss in top form and her recent third to Rill McOloy and Raggage King indicates just how pood she is at present PRINCESS DARRELL has a big catch in the weight with only ninetv-three pounds assigned her. QUEEN BBSS showed a brilliant effort to take second monev to Tailteann and the same sort of race will bring her the same split here. CO NFL IE. NTE— MISS N VNCY— HlJ, MOON. The eighth may be a close fit with OON-ELUENTE. MISS NANCT and KULL MOON fighting it out at the finish. CONFLUENT*: gets the call because he has his speed at present and won at the last asking. MISS NANCY was beaten in the last one but interference make* any of them look bad. FULL MOON is also a recent winner but she seldom rei eats. However she does run close and figures to be third. ME EACH HI NO— BETTY MALONEY— INCITOR. MELAOHRIXO ran a keen race to be second to Deep Thought and ought to show another effort like it this afternoon, figuring that he can step back to that gallop we like him for the straight plav in the ninth and take BETTY MALONKY to place. INCITOR may be pressed near the finish but still land on top for the show BHHWy. BETTY MALONEY has taken two straight races and was never better. INCITOR is coming to hand and only needs a spot in which to score brackets. BILLY TO DO— CLERMONT Jit BREECHLOADER. LILLY TODD is the class of the field in the final race.. He must beat CLERMONT JR. which he can do providing he runs to his best form. The latter won his last ono by five lengths over a muddy track BREECHLOADER seems fresh and good and is picked to show. Best Bet — BATHILDE SETH .
