SAFE IN KENTUCKY ■ s Sensational Carlaris Reaches Louisville Without Mishap. ♦ Quartered at Douglas Park Where of He Will Be Prepared for Derby JJ at — Injured Leg Healed. £ ai and ♦ L.OUISVILLE. Ky., April 1C— Carlaris. fl the sensational three-year-old winner of the l* Coffroth Handicap, and prevailing favorite " the for the Kentucky Derby, arrived in this city late Thursday night after a quick trip from all Tijuana, which place he left at noon last Mondav. The black colt stood the long journey in excellent condition and suffered no ill-effects from the long trip. Owing to the lateness of the hour of his arrival, the colt was kept on the car and was not un- Jr in loaded until this morning. He is now safely stabled in a special stall prepared for him j in the big barn at Douglas. The colt will ft remain at the track, where his preparation l£, for the Derby will be completed. t] Owner W. T. Anderson did not arrive with lg Carlaris. He is expected to reach here some dav next week with a number of other s] horses of his stable. Carlaris came in charge t of trainer Fred Kraft, who has had personal A charge of the colt since he became the prop- c erty of Mr. Anderson, and who has saddled him in all of his races. w □I SPLENDID CONDITIO*. Mr. Kraft declared that Carlaris shipped I in splendid condition, and that there is h nothing the matter with him with the exception of a slight filling up of the right hind S leg. due to infection caused by the colt strik- e ing himself. The injury is only superficial, ii and is almost healed. e Carlaris reached here much sooner than 1 expected, and it was generally believed he t could not possibly arrive until Friday afternoon. Owing to the uncertain time of his arrival there were few on hand to welcome him when the train drew into the Union Station. The trip from the coast, however, according to trainer Kraft, was a triumphant one and one befitting the reputation of a colt like Carlaris. : The colts stall was beseiged all morning by a curious throng, all anxious to get a giimj e of the Coffroth Handicap wi"ner. but they were disappointed, as trainer Kraft did not want to disturb the colt after he had been blanketed and put away. The colt was equipped with heavy bandages reaching to his knees on the trip here, and these had not been removed after he had J been put in his stall. BMHR STABLE COMPANIONS. i Kight other horses belonging to the Anderson stable arrived with Carlaris, and these were the three-year-old Ruth Gold, and the two-year-olds Rosy Tint, Bert Mil-ner. Short Price, Beauty Star, Artilleryman, Sweep Over and Alma Mater. The Anderson . stahU- will command the riding services of jockeys C. lhilpot and F. Taylor, who both arrived with the stable from the coast. Wil- ; lie Munden, who rode Carlaris in all of his I rates, will probably be called upon to pilot 1 the colt in the Derby, provided J. K. L. Ross, his contract employer, has no starter in the big race. Brilliant sunshine and a fast track had the effect of ececlerating training preparations at both local tracks this morning, and train- j took advantage of ers and Derby eligibles these favorable conditions by sending along i thefr charges for some of the most ambitious gallops of the season. W. Feuchter, who spent the winter season In Cuba, arrived today. Don Moran, owner of Escarpolette and other horses, was also an arrival. Starter William Hamilton left this morning for 1-xington to superintend the work of schooling the two-year-olds at that track. He left Hodkins. one of bis assistants, to attend to the work here. M. J. Ayers arrived with the three-year-old Mary KinLead. which whs campaigned with Heme success at New Orleans and Tampa. The three-year-old Better Off, which Ayers raced at Tampa, was sent to Hillyar Stud to BO turned out. Timothy, one of the Kenton Farm Stables Derby eligibles, QUI hot a half in :52a5.
