RAIN AT FAIRMOUNT Cold and Disagreeable Weather Fails to Affect Attendance Reputation Easily Accounts for Missouri Handicap Most Pre ¬ tentious Race of the Day COLLINSVILLE III June P Cold drizzly weather followed a steady downpour of this morning causing unpropitous racing condi ¬ tions to prevail at Fairmount Park this afternoon but the attendance was again up to former standard and filled the spacious plant The clubhouse contingent was par ¬ ticularly extensive The change in going pave the sturdier mud performers oppor ¬ tunity to race in their best style while those with a primary liking for fast track racing also had opportunity the footing being fairly firm The Missouri Handicap at threequarters with 51500 added was the outstanding con ¬ test and it proved easy for Harned Bros Reputation His victory was anticipated and lie was backed to the exclusion of the other four starters in the race He was the short ¬ est priced winner of the meeting He was hustled into the lead immediately after the start and led for the entire distance ulti ¬ mately winning as his rider pleased The struggle for second place was spectacular and developed quite a duel between Childs Play and Fast Time Childs Play under vigorous handling getting up in the final stride In the earlier stages Childs Play had been a laggard and seemingly was com ¬ pletely out of it but he responded fast when ridden hard and overhauled the fast tiring Fast Time Beau Butler was again a dis ¬ appointment seemingly being adverse to the muddy going Dolly Seth the other starter quit badly in the lust eighth eighthIIANCING IIANCING FOOL 3IAKKS GOOD GOODDancing Dancing Fool extensively backed made good in the fourth race at a mile and a sixteenth and downed the favorite Fire toma The latter was ridden by Barnctt and would have performed much better under a skillful rider Champignol the extreme outsider finished third Pequot as usual displayed good speed but he quit almost to a walk after going threequarters Torcher another starter in the race showed nothing Jockey K Pool who easily stands out as the most skilfull rider at the track gave a weird exhibition astride his contract em ¬ ployers Candy Rock and was directly re ¬ sponsible for the Archibald representatives failure Candy Rock was pounds the best but Pool took back sharply when it seemed imminent that he might suffer interference He elected to race him wide thereafter and had to go all around the others It cost him much ground and he failed to overhaul Shasta l id The latter contributed the first purse of the meeting earned by II D Brown Shasta I id showed a liking for the going and displayed good speed Double Quick which had raced prominently for the entire way finished in third place placeWKIhFIXDER WKIhFIXDER IX LAST STRIDE STRIDEAn An overwhelming favorite was downed in the opening race when Wellfinder was up in the hist stride to overhaul Marionette The latter wis backed with rare confidence and gave much promise in the early stages when sh led by a good margin but her diminutive rider contributed to her defeat by his over realousness when he began plying the whip at the expense of letting her head loose causing her to sprawl some in the slippery going Wellfinder going straight as an arrow through the stretch gained steadily and was up in the last stride Colonel Schooler raced forwardly from the start and though tiring badly near the end held the others safe for third place placeThe The colors of the Mini Monte Stable were carried to its first victory here when Iron Mask II led Chief Uncas and eight others In the second race registering handily near the end The winner followed Chief Uncas closely in the early stages but the pacemaker held on surprisingly well during the stretch and it was only until the last sixteenth when he gave way to Iron Mask II Gatewood coming strong in the last quarter over ¬ hauled Cluricaune in the last eighth The leading four at the finish at all times domi ¬ nated the others being badly outrun outrunlate late withdrawals from the sixth race re ¬ duced the field to four starters and it found Kia winner after a spirited drive from Run dark with Shining Cold the favorite in third place just managing to outstay Fausto Kia began fast and showed good speed shaking off Shining Gold in the first threeeighths and having enough in reserve to outstay Run dark when the latter challenged strongly Fausto was far out of it but came strong and just missed getting up for third place C Wright claimed Rundark at a cost bf 2500 2500Thirteen Thirteen Sixty was an arrival this morn ¬ ing from Louisville She came In charge of trainer Clyde Van Duscn and will be started In the Illinois Stakes Saturday
