INAUGURAL HANDICAP Princess Doreen Scores Easy but Notable Triumph Carries 122 Pounds and Beats Traymore Tangara and Others in Latonia s Initial Stake LATONIA Ky June 3 Quite befitting one so indelibly inscribed in the ledger of the great Princess Doreen gallant fiveyear old daughter of Spanish Prince II and Lady Doreen carried the purple and lavender oi the Audley Farm Stable to a popular well deserved yet easily accomplished triumph in the Inaugural Handicap here this after ¬ noon The race was the principal offering of the opening of a twentyeight day spring and summer meeting and the winner trav ¬ elled the course under the heavy impost of 122 pounds which included jockey E Legere Traymore J B Respess steadily improving fouryearold raced to second place while S N Holmans Tangara beat the others of the field of eight The remaining ones Ken ¬ tucky Cardinal Marconi Cudgeller Deeming and Guest of Honor finished behind the three in the order of mention mentionThe The winner ran the necessary one and onesixteenth miles in 145 a rather good performance which she might have bettered with stiffer competition She was forced back as she raced into the back stretch but however found an opening going to the turn out of the back strip which virtually evened the loss of ground sustained by the bad luck she encountered earlier in the running runningTRAYMORE TRAYMORE THE PACEMAKER PACEMAKERTraymore Traymore had the most speed of the start ¬ ers and jockey Griffin permitted him to make the most use of it He raced head and head with Princess Doreen around the first turn but scampered away rounding the threequarters curve and held sway far in advance of his foes until Legere brought the Princess up with a rush midway of the stretch Once collared the early pacemaker gave in without resistance but managed to stick to his task long enough to save second place placeDuring During the closing seventy yards Princess Doreen raced against a tight hold as Legere quickly sensed the inability of Traymore to keep pace with his sturdy mount and with none of the others within dangerous range the victress was permitted to take her good time over the late yards Tangara made up some ground coming to the stretch but had to be hard ridden to retain third place after he started to lose ground to the two more forward ones in the stretch Ken tucky Cardinal finished with excellent speed and but for his languid beginning might have been a prominent factor in the final skirmish With the exception of a flash of speed from Marconi the others showed tliem selves to be Muldoon which forced the pace most of the way finished in second place a com ¬ fortable distance in front of Pandosto which raced from far back with a rush to be third The winner was the betting choice while Mount Beacon next in public fancy began slowly and tired badly after racing within range of the forward ones at the last turn turnThe The finish in the third race at a mile and seventy yards in which nine good platers took part found Beneficent completing a double for the Idle Hour Stock Farm Stable She won nicely from Lady Stone which was up in the concluding eighth to beat Marengo out of second place The latter was the leader until the winner raced by him well up the stretch The victor was ably ridden by L Graver a youngster under contract to the Idle Hour Farm Stable It was his first winning performance performanceThe The Rosedale Purse offered as the fourth race resulted in an easy win for the speedy Prince of Wales from the stable of E B McLean Mose Goldblatts Teak was second and IF P Headleys Rural Route third of the field of six to finish finishIt It was Teak which went out and made a fast pace from the start with the ultimate victor racing at her heels This pair drew far in advance of the others turning out of the back stretch and it was not until inside the final turn that Prince of Wales was permitted to take the lead from the Grld blatt filly Once in front he drew away rapidly and was under restraint as he fin ¬ ished four lengths in front of Teak which in turn was not closely pressed by Rural Route
