RACE MEETING AT PEORIA: Fifteen Days Sport to Be Held Over Mile Track from July 1 to July 17. PEORIA. HI.. June IT.— The newly organized Peoria Jockey Club has announced its dates for an inaugural meeting that will be for a duration of fifteen days, commencing July 1 and ending July 17. The beautiful mile track at the Exposition grounds has been leased for a period of five years, and the Peoria Jockey Club will conduct two meetings of fifteen days each year. Purses will range from 00 to ,000, and a daily distribution of ,000 will be made to the horsemen. The Peoria Derby, for three-year-olds, will be run July 15 and will be one of the most important races run during the meeting. It will carry a value of ,000 and should attract some good three-year-olds. The Inaugural Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, will have a value of ,000. and handicaps of ,000 will be run each Saturday of the meeting. Among the well known officials secured to supervise the racing are: . W. Primrose, who will be the presiding steward: Marry Morrissey. starter, and A. E. Blanchard, racing secretary. It has been fifteen years since the citizens of Peoria have witnessed any running races here, and the interest they are manifesting in the coming meeting amply indicates they will welcome back the sport with an added interest. A huge force of workmen has been employed, and their efforts for the past two weeks has put the racing plant into the best possible condition. The newly erected concrete grandstand that will seat 7.500 is completed and the thousand stalls are ready for occupancy. Applications for stable room can be addressed to Peoria Jockey Club.
