VETERAN HORSEMAN DEAD LATONIA. Ky., June 14.— James McKin-ney, veteran horseman, died after a brief illness from pneumonia at his home on Winston Avenue, latonia, Friday night. News of his death was a shock to horsemen, with whom he was most popular. At the time of his death. McKinney was in charge of the horses Alloy. Helen Carter and Qoktea Thistle, the property of C. K. Hamilton. Covington horseman. Alloy won a race last Monday, the day after McKinney was stricken with the fatal illness. McKinney was a native of Chicago and had been engaged in the racing business practically all of his life. A few years ago he trained for liody P. Marshall, prominent Pittsburgh attorney, who raced some good horses of his own breeding, among the number being the Widow Moon and Smoke House. During recent years McKinney spent the winter in Louisville training his small stable at Churchill Downs. He was a familiar figure in South Louisville. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
