ROYAL ASCOT OPENS TODAY Most Brilliant of Turf Meetings in England to Begin in Usual Blaze of Glory. LONDON, England. June 14.— Tomorrow Itoyal Ascot, one of the most brilliant turf meetings in the world, will begin when notables from all over the kingdom will gather to witness the competition between the thoroughbreds in a series of valuable stake races. From tomorrow to Friday the following events at Ascot Heath will attract public attention : Coventry Stakes, for two-year-old colts : the Queen Mary Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, the Irince of Wales Stakes, the Coronation Stakes, the Gold Vase, the Cold Cup, the Ascot Stakes, the Boyal Hunt Cup and the New Stakes. One of the possibilities is a meeting on even terms tomorrow in the St. James Palace Stakes of Lord Derbys colt, Colorado, winner of the years first classic, the Two Thousand Guineas, and Lord Woola-vingtons Coronach, which won the Epsom Derby. Colorado defeated Coronach by five lengths in the Guineas, and Coronach came back in the mud and rain at Epsom and won the Derby by five lengths from Mance Caye. which wis a short head in front of olorado. The colts are also entered in the Hard-wick Stakes, to he run Friday, the last day of the meeting. On the outcome of the races at Ascot may depend the fixing of the favorite for the fifth and last of the seasons three-year-old classics, the St. Leger. which is to be run at Doncaster in September. Many Americans are among the thousands of visitors here for the Ascot races.
