AMERICAN LEGION PURSE Marred by Accident That Eliminated Sergeant Seth — Winner Turns Up in Marjorie Seth. OMAHA. Nib., June 25. The American liegion Iurse, fur I wo yea r Oklt. was the l est race on this nflernaons card at Ak-Sar-P.en field, hut unfortunately it was not truly run. Serjeant Beth, which was coupled with Colonel Seth as the Jones Stock Farm entry, was undoubtedly the best horse, yet he failed to get any part of the purse because of an accident which occurred at the stretch turn. Sergeant Seth. was running strongly making the bend and had come to the inside of the leaders, when he seemed to cross his legs and made a bad bobble and, had not Laidley been alert, he would have surely fallen. As it was, he lost his great chance by being thrown out of his stride and was unable to overtake the leaders again. Colonel Seth also suffered seme by being pocketed between Marjory Seth and Fore Mc in the stretch run and not being able to run freely. Marjory Seth was the winner, due to a fine ride by Pablo Martinez. She was well up from the start and held on well to l eat Colonel Seth by a nose. For Me lasted to be third, while Sergeant Seth was fourth. Palolo, one of the favored ones, was never prominent and was outrun all the way. Ladies ] ay attracted one of the best crowds of the meeting, and the track was fast despite the fact that it had rained early in the morning. The opening race on the program was for Nenraska-owned horses and attracted a field of seven. Crescent was thought to have the race at her mercy and she was a heavy choice, but Runaway upset the calculations of the majority by racing her into defeat in the first quarter and taking a commanding lead which he held to the finish. Crescent was much the best of the others, while Kirkwood was third. Crescent changed hands after the race, going to Mrs. K. W. Fouts via the claiming route for ,000. Danie was the best of those that battled in the second race. She was close up from the beginning and. catching the early leaders tiring in the stretch, took command and drew away to an easy victory. Col. Fat, the favorite, was second and Bub took third. Big Sapp made a show of his opponents in the fourth race. The big chestnut went to the front when the webbing was released and just raced along in front for the entire distance. He gave his backers a few anxious moments by swinging wide at the stretch turn, but never was in danger of being headed. He was neglected in favor Of .lames B. Brown and paid the handsome price of 1.00. Mary Dear was second and Ivcmon Seth third.
