MUDDY AT LEXINGTON ♦ Only Slow Gallops Indulged in Over Kentucky Association Track. ♦ Torchilla Reported in Fine Fettle — Mose Goldblatt Goes East For Division of Whitney Stable. ♦ I,EXINGTON. Ky., April 6.— While the w Milier was ideal, a muddy track continued to operate against the training of thoroughbreds at the Kentucky Association track here today. Long, leisurely gallops over the sand track were numerous, the training course receiving virtually all of the horses that were under saddle. With the progress of the morning came a rapid improvement in the main track and. with continued fair weather through the day and night, trainers should find the running ground sufficiently dried to return their horses to more exacting work on Thursday. The fine weather lured out the largest gallery that has witnessed early morning activities here this spring and, while the absence of fast trials came as a disappointment for many, a majority took sharp interest in the slow gallops under adverse conditions and seemed well rewarded for their jaunts. Much interest centered upon the first appearance on the track of Applegate and Van r usens Torchilla. one of the leading western two-year-o!ds of the past year and a Kentucky I»erby eligible. Van Dusen had the son of Ton-hbear.T on the inside track and his work constituted nothing more than limbering exercise, fashioned to fit him for more strenuous running tomorrow. He made the trip from New Orleans without mishap and Van I useii believes he is acting better than at any prevous time since his severe illness last summer. fiENERAl. HVI.DEMAX ERRATIC. C, C. Van Meter had out Rolled Socking and Bonaire the Derby hopefuls in his charge and W. Perkins sent General Haldeman to the training track shortly after daybreak. This latter I erl y eligible is one of the most erratic horses in training here and Perkins lias him out early and off the track before others leave their stables. Recent arrivals from New Orleans were numerous among the early morning visitors and horsemen, although no horse shipments were received during the day. ". R Shaffer, who maintains Coldstream Farm and one of the largest stables in training here, is due to reach here tonight after :« world tour.
