LARGE CROWD AT DUFFERIN Occupy All Available Space, Including Infield for Toronto Inaugural Saturday. TORONTO, Ont, June 18. It was a typical Dufferin Park crowd that was on hand for the opening days sport at the popular half-mile track. The immense throng filled all available space, including the Infield, , while others made themselves comfortable sitting on the rail on the turn into the back stretch. The fifth race, called the Dufferin Park Purse, with a value of 51,000, was the best race provided, and brought together a well-matched field of- eight to race seven-eighths mile under claiming conditions. W. J. Owens furnished the winner, when his five-year-old mare Canister easily defeated Flag of Truce, from the stable of E. J. Morrow, a local owner, with W. G. Campbell furnishing the third horse In Taudlane. Pet-recca had the mount on Canister, rated her in close attendance of Son Ami, took command when the latter tired and was not seriously threatened at the end. Flag of Truce displayed a good effort to take second place, after being last to leave the barrier. He had to work his way through and finished fast under hard riding. Taudlane, after racing well up for the entire race, was doing his best at the end to withstand the belated rush of Kamakani. The latter made up ground in the last quarter mile.
