• DERBY WORK AT LEXINGTON LEXIXGTOX, Ky.. April 23.— Dark Eagle, the maiden son of Star Hawk and Breathing Spell, which A. ""Jack" Baker is training for the Kentucky Derby for R. S. Clark, prominent eastern sportsman, this morning exhibited high quality as a heavy track runner, when he breezed a mile in 1 :49% over the local course. Dark Eagle seemed to revel in the going and it required no small amount of effort for his rider to prevent him from going in much faster time. Trainer Baker had hoped to Keep the horse at a slightly slower pace. He went the quarter in :26"5 ; half in :51% ; three-quarters in 1 :1MI and seven-eighths in 1:35%. He was not the least distressed and cooled out in fine fettle. He is expected to make his debut during the present meeting and has a hest of admirers among the horsemen. Bonivan, A. A. Kaisers Derby hope and winner of the recent Camden Handicap renewal, was sent to the track to breeze three-quarters. He was timed in 1:24%, the work being an easy one. Among the leaser noted Derby eligibles to work as Colonel Bakers Col. Bob. He negotiated five-eighths in 1 :07, breezing against stout restraint throughout. . — *
