Y., April 25.— Bonnie j Khayyam, which races for R. C. Winmill, i ■ was winner of the feature offering of the ! I Metropolitan Jockey Club at Jamaica today j I when she won the three-quarters mile Fleet j I Handicap, beating Gifford A. Cochrans Nu- j sakan by a big margin. This was an over- | j night handicap, but it occupied the feature j | place on the program. The second race, over ! I the same distance, was run in faster time, i and went to Propus, a stablemate to Nusakan, which beat Mowlee. There was no rain to mar the sport, but there was a drop in temperature that made racing uncomfortable, while a wind that blew over the course did not add to the comfort of a surprisingly large crowd. The track had improved somewhat, but it was still slow from its recent drenching. Some of the interest in the Fleet Handicap was lost with the scratching of two such fast ones as Ramoneur and Jumbo, while File-maker and Xixie were two others to d3cline at post time. This left only five to race. The start was a good one and Xusakan was at once sent into a lead of a couple of lengths by Kelsay. Once in front, she was rated along close to the inner rail and he had no trouble holding his lead until well into the stretch. In the run home Kelsay remained on the inside, though the going was not as firm there as further out and an eighth from home Xusakan tired badly and Bonnie Khayyam j i moved up with a rush on the outside. Xusakan fought along for a few strides, but the filly was not to be denied and she was on past to be the winner by four lengths. Doctor Wilson, after being outrun in the early stages, finished with excellent courage to beat the others and Soult. an imported sprinter that races for the Carlton Stable, was a close fourth, beating Apostle, the only other starter. This same Soult created just a bit of sensation in the running, when, after being away slowly, he showed a great burst of speed to race into a contending position before the stretch was reached, but he tired in the run home. Rosa Sweep, racing for Mrs. J. Sciaccaluga, v.-as winner of the opening five-eighths dash that was offered for juveniles of the plater division. Mrs. Eouise Viaus Roseomar bumped her way into second place and Mrs. James Beans Artie Kay, after being badly fouled by Roseomar saved third by a nose from the Rosedale Stables Singlestick. Rosr. Sweep, beginning well, had speed enough to hold her front position throughout, and Roseomar was not far away, while Artie Kay, after being away in the first flight, was shuffled back badly until she seemed to have i lost every chance. It was not until the stretch was reached that Artie Kay found real racing room and .out i rnied on sixteenth page. BONNIE KHAYYAM VICTRESS Continued from first page.1 she was finding her way through in gallant fashion when Garner came over sharply with Roseomar and Watters was forced to take up sharply. This came well inside the final eighth, and the filly had no chance to make up the lost ground, but barring the interference, she surely would have beaten Roseomar and may possibly have been winner of the race. Xo claim of foul was made after the running and the order of the finish was not disturbed by the stewards. It may be that allowance was made for the fouling on the grounds that two-year-olds, early in the year cannot be expected to run straight and true at all times. Henry McDaniel brought a fit three-year-old to the races for Gifford A. Cochran. Tuesday when Genie, the first time out, gave a good performance to only be nosed out by the four-year-old Son o Battle. He brought out another fit one in the three-quarters, second race, when he saddled Propus, to have him winner from Mowlee, from the Rancocas Stable. Four lengths back of these two Mrs. William Knapps Undercover saved third from Volante. In this it was Mowlee that forced all the running. He was away in his stride and when he was clear Fator rated him along while Kelsay was content to have Propus galloping along back of him. Then, came Undercover and Volante well lapped, with the others further back and cutting no figure in the running. Mowlee held his lead without trouble until well into the stretch and he looked all over a winner until inside the final sixteenth he swerved to the inside and at the same time Propus, running straight and true, got past to come on and win by a length and a half. Undercover had no trouble taking care of Volante in the run home, and while he was soundly beaten by the first two, he was six lengths before the old Fair Play gelding.
