England, May 4.— The most popular victory in many years in the One Thousand Guineas was scored here today when King Georges colors finished to the . fore in a fourteen-horse field. The royal silks were carried by Scuttle, a bay daughter Captain -Cuttle — Stained Glass. To tu- . multous cheering she defeated Lord Dewars Jurisdiction, a daughter of Abbots Thrace — i Lady Juror, by one length. Lord Derbys Toboggan, by Hurry On — Glacier, was third , six lengths away, while Lord Rosebeys , Catharis, which is by Son-in-Law — Dam- , mermuir, was fourth. Then followed Cori- j andre, Grand Vixen and Fond de Lac. j The One Thousand Guineas, like the Oaks | Epsom, is for three-year-old fillies, all starters carrying 120 pounds over the Rowley mile, the same course on which the Two Thousand Guineas, for three-year-old colts and fillies, is contested. Scuttle was piloted J. Childs and Jurisdiction by G. Richards. Weston was up on Toboggan, C. Elliott on Catharis, Bonilow on Coriandre, J. Leach on Grand Vixen and F. Winter on Fond de Lac. The stake was worth 5,000. Scuttle was the favorite at IS to 8. Jurisdiction was 100 to 8 and Toboggan 11 to 2. A large crowd viewed the race. In the royal box were King George and Princess Mary. Many Americans were present, including Marshall Field, A. C Schwartz, Stephen Banford and C. J. Fitzgerald. The Duke of Portlands Forty Winks, by Tetratema — Sunny Eyes, won the Newmarket Two-Year-Old Stakes over the five-eighths Rouse Course. Richards rode. There were fifteen starters. A. B. Walkers Double Away was second, beaten a half length. Lord Glanleys Serviceable was third, one length away. Forty Winks paid 9 to 1.
