* j At Aurora One Best Bet — ROYAL RUBY — in the Third Race. a at s l to B i c t to f , I s j £ t j J c j : , I i , ; t The first Saturday program to be offered Exposition Tark is top notch in every respect. It is by far the best card scheduled date and the lage half-holiday crowd which no doubt will be on hand should wit- j ness some excellent racing. The Island City i Handicap is the main attraction and it brings ] out a good field of sprinters to race over the | three-quarters distance. Hot Time is favored t account for this purse. ] The Merry Monte Purse and the secondary | feature brings out another good field of han- l dicap horses which are to contest over the i mile and seventy yards route. Flora M., win- , ner of the Inaugural Handicap, Devon, Grand Dad and Rip Rap are among those entered i and they should put up a good contest. Two- | year-olds come into their own in the For- ; ward Purse, to be run as the third number, and over the four and a half furlongs dis- ; tance. This race promises to result in a bat- | tie between Royal Ruby and Peggy. There is a possibility that a track other than fast will prevail for todays sport because the weather indications are none too promising. However, there are plenty of mud runners entered in the various numbers and the sport should not suffer to any noticeable degree should there come a change in track conditions. STURDY STELLA— SILVER QUEEN —WELCOME. The field in the opener will have all they can do to keep the filly STURDY STELLA from taking this tilt if she comes back with another race like she turned in Wednesday, when she won with ease from Cup o Tea and Secrecy after setting the pace for most of the race. SILVER QUEEN can do much better than her last race would indicate and, should the track become other than fast, she should prove even more dangerous. WEL-come appears to have an edge on the others, although he will be making his first start of the year. His workouts indicate that he is ready for a good effort. BILL SETH— "0 EFFORT— BALL GEE. The form showed by BILL SETH during his racing at New Orleans earns him a call over the large band entered in the second race. He has taken down some part of the purse in his last seven trips to the post and in two of them took down the major portion of the purse. The gelding is in his best form and a race in his true style here should find him leading this field to the wire. G. Drum-hellers NO EFFORT showed he is a good colt for, in his first time to the races, he turned in an easy win over a good band of platers. Should he be able to repeat that race he will give this field no end of trouble. The consistent plater BALL GEE must be given a look in for the short end of the purse. ROYAL RUBY— PEGGY— LENA M, In the third race the Forward Purse, fashioned for two-year-olds, we are looking for the good filly ROYAL RUBY to turn in another winning effort. If she can repeat her race of the other day she should have little trouble in trimming this field and, though she is picking up three pounds over her last win, she looms as the best play of the day. PEGGY, which came up from Lexington villi two good wins to her credit in her three starts there, figures as the one to furnish the most contention. LENA M., which only lost a head decision to Coal Black on opening day, has to be given a good chance to account for some part of this purse. j i ] | t ] | l i , i | ; ; | HOT TIME— -PRISONER— AXACOXBA. In the Island City Handic. p we are selecting HOT TIME to prove, victorious. His initial effort here was a third to Orestes II. and Anaconda, and there is no denying that he benefitted much from that effort. He is to carry top weight today, but, at that, get* weight off from his last start and that should have a telling effect on his performance. He beat better company last year than he meets here and he only has to run his usual race to account for this purse. PRISONER came back to the races in winning fashion, beating Conquistador earlier in the week, and he will take plenty of beating today if he elects to go in the same style. ANACONDA put up a good effort in his first start here and, if that showing was no fluke he should be able to land some part of this purse. BONNIE OMAR has not hit his best stride as yet but may prove dangerous company with his light impost. GRAND DAD— FLORA M.— DEVON. GRAND DAD is good in any kind of going and, for that reason, is taken to win the Merry Monte Purse, to be run as the fifth number and over the mile and seventy yards distance. The Pueblo Stable gelding has had a long rest since the Jefferson Tark meeting and he should be in tip top fettle. He has been working well and, with his favorable impost today, should be able to beat this field. FLORA M., winner of the Inaugural Handicap, rates as the most likely danger. She put up a game race to beat Shasta Gokl and is bound to prove dangerous today if she goes in the same manner. DEVON raced fairly well at Lexington before being shipped here and appears to hold a good chance of collecting some part of this purse. RIP RAP may have a word to say as to the ultimate result. MISS CHINIQUY— TORCHER— MOROCCO. The sixth race looks like a good spot for the filly MISS CHINIQUY to get down in front. She has been knocking at the door in her last two starts, for both of those efforts were bang-up seconds. She will meet tough opposition from TORCHER and MOROCCO, but we think If she races in her best form, she is capable of taking the measure of this band. TORCHER is always dangerous and he no doubt will make MISS CHINIQUY step to keep him from being returned the winner. MOROCCO looks the best of the rest of the field and he may prove a real troublemaker if he elects to race back to his best Maryland form. DUNBEATH— GREAT LUCK-OPEN HAND. The seventh race, at one and a eighth miles, should be a hard fought battle between DUNBEATH and GREAT LUCK, with the former favored on his last effort, which was a good second to Rock Candy. He is getting weight off over that race and thi3 should help him in winning today. GREAT LUCK will try hard to repeat his win of the other day but, as he is asked to carry five pounds more than DUNBEATH, we doubt if he can duplicate his last performance. OPEN HAND raced well enough in his first start here to give him the call for the short end of the purse. FREYA, on her good race behind GREAT LUCK, has to be given an outside chance to finish among the pay-off horses.
