May 4.— In a driving finish W. J. Whalene Miss Maggie scored a i head victory over Post Mistress in the Clock , Handicap, which featured t.ie ladies day card ■ at Beulah Park this afternoon. Shasta Lad, the favorite, was a creditable third after hav- ing been crowded back shortly after the start • and failed to secure clear saling until the stretch was reached. After Bea. the early leader, tired Post Mistress and Miss Maggie ; contested for the leadership closely in the » last quarter and Miss Maggie proved best in j the final drive. An accident attended the running of the race. As the field was rounding the far turn closely bunched. Deputy, when racing in a contending position, went down. Jockey C. Kingsland, who had the mount, was removed from the track in an unconscious condition. Examination in the temporary track hospital quarters failed to disclose the exact extent of his injury and he was taken to Mount Cams] I Hospital still unconscious. It is feared his skull is fractured or he is suffering from con-i cussion of the brain.
