STAND BY OUTSTAYS CRASH; 1 * Greenfield Claiming Stakes Jamaicas Outstanding Attraction. Black Curl Carries liancocas Stables Colors to Victory In Chatham Handicap — Bill McCabe Falls. NEW YORK X. Y., May 14— The Greenfield Claiming Stakes, at five-eighths, for two-year-olds, was the best offering of todays program at Jamaica, and Frank M. Brays Stand By a. as returned the winner in a drive over Mrs. Louise Viaus Crash, while Miss Paradise, racing for Mrs. J. Seiaccaluga was third. The event was worth ,250 to the winning owner. The start was none too good and Stand By was the one to display the most early speed. He showed the way to Crash, with Prince Bozo in third place, while Carnivorous was in fourth position and appeared to be in close quarters. Rounding the stretch turn, Stand By continued to show the way and McAtee sensing the danger from Crash, urged his mount into a longer lead. Crash, however, had something left and, when he was called upon, moved up gamely and, through the final eighth, was wearing the winner down. Miss Paradise, which raced coupled with Prince Bozo came with a rush at the end and was a driving third. Carnivorous, when clear, failed to close in the stretch run as she did in her previous start, while Dorrie, one that had been racing in her previous starts in a disappointing manner, finished fifth. The semi-final day of the Jamaica meeting was ushered in under ideal conditions and the crowd was well above the Monday average. Large fields paraded in the different events which were, under claiming condi-tions, while the better class events brought together fields of merit and, on the whole, the racing was of a spirited nature. BY XARROIV MARGIN. Black Curl, the four-year-old filly which races for the Rancocas Stable, was winner of the Chatham Handicap over the three-quarters distance. She was driving hard at the end to defeat Lace, from the Mendhnm Stable, by the mTOwePt of marsrins, while H. P. Whitneys Skylight was third. The field was I aiily behaved at the post and delayed the start for B?vcral minutes. From a good start Lace raced into the lead, pressed by Black Curl, with Skylight in third place and Miss Simplicity bringing up the rear. Fator elected to race on the outside of Lace rounding the turn and, although Lace came a trifle wide, she did not interfere with Black Curl. Skylight slipped through on the inside but was unequal to the task of wearing down the leaders. Black Curl and Lace passed the finish closely lapped, with the winner undecided until the official placing was displayed. Maiden three-year-olds and over furnished the offering in the second race of the day, at a mile and seventy yards, and another hair-raising finish resulted when Mrs. T. O. Webbers Rendezvous was winner over James Butlers Capriole, while Buddha, racing for Philip H. Dein, was third. What appeared to be a nasty fall luckily turned out otherwise when Bill McCabe went down nearing the first turn. C. Watters, however, escaped injury. Capriole went into the lead, followed by Igor with Buddha in third place and the winner fourth. There was no change in the running positions until the field made the turn for home. Rendezvous moved up fast on the outside, but Capriole was not through and. under hard riding, held on well. However. McGovern proved the better finisher at the end and landed Rendezvous winner. Buddha was in close quarters in the final sixteenth on the rail. Rose, who rode Igor, lodged a complaint of foul, which was not allowed. NARROWLY ACHIEVED VICTORY. Fourteen platers made up the first race of the day and it resulted in a stirring finish, wrhen G. L. Goodacres Jim Bean, ridden by C. Watters. was returned the winner after a hard drive by a narrow margin over Clarence Buxtons Skavar, while Mrs. J. Mc-Nallys Lass o Gowrie was third. The winner was forced to work his way up steadily on the outside and, under resolute handling, wore down the leaders and gained the decision in the final stride. Skavar, which raced prominently all the way, assumed a brief lead in the stretch run after disposing of Complication, but was unable to withstand the challenge of the winner. Lass o Gow.ie raced well all the way and was a good third. Star o Morn, one of James Butlers pair in the Neptune Handicap, proved an easy winner from Sankari, from the Rancocas Stable, while William Zeiglers Maelstrom was third. Much of the interest in the race was detracted when Filemaker began in such a tangle that he was practically eliminated. Star o Morn assumed such an easy lead on the first turn that Chalmers sat still and rated him along. Vacation and Filemaker were the ones to race after him, with Sankari funher lack. Turning for home Star o Morn drew away into a long lead and in the final eighth was under restraint. Sankari came with his usual rush and at the end wore down Maelstrom for second place. Fatigue, racing for the B. B. Stable, accounted for the final race of the day in a drive with T. W. OBriens Miss Onine, while Mrs. Clyde Phillips Sport was third. The winner was ridden by J. Bollero and dominated the running throughout. Miss Onine finished fast on the outside, while Sport, after being in close quarters tired at the end.
