T CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES | $ LOUISVILLE. Ky.. May 14. Jockey Harold Thurber arrived from the East to have the mount on Lawley this afternoon and C. E. Allen came from Aurora to handle Jack Higgins, the Louisiana Derby winner, in the same race. Both these boys Will ride these horses in the Derby. Trainer B. S. Michell, after deciding that Reigh Count would face his initial engagement of the year without assistance, scratched Reigh Oiga and worked him in company with Sea Rip a mile in 1 :42. Reigh Olga went easily during the work, while considerable pressure was required to keep Sea Rip on even terms with the Lehmann colt. They went the quarter in :24%, half in :49£ and three-quarters in 1:15. Reigh Olga was entered with Reigh Count for the afternoons feature race. Jockey A. Abel returned from Maryland and will ride out the balance of the Kentucky season as a free lance. W. R. Midgely came in from Maryland with his stable of seven. They found quarters at Douglas Park and are : A. P. Canalc, High Score, Sauce, Pretty Michelle, Rigel, Ring On and Wedding Flight. The injuries apprentice Carl Meyer suffered in his fall from the horse Algol Saturday are expected to keep him out of the saddle for the balance of the meeting. Apprentice W. Kern suffered a badly injured eye when struck by the head of Cleora, his mount, in the opening race. The filly threw her head back suddenly and caught Kern unprepared while on the way to the barrier. The youngster finished second with the horse.
