L .1 III I ..mum in. PJM I ...BW— la— WB— i INAUGURAL AT HAMILTON Ohio Meeting Opens Under Splendid Conditions — Panorel Scores in Feature Race cf Day. HAMILTON, Ohio. May It.— Under ideal conditions the spring meeting of the Hamilton Jockey Club get under way at the picturesque Fair Grounds Hack this afternoon. An excellent crowd was on hand for the opening and the spoit was spirited, featured by numerous s retch struggles. Aldrieh fc Winans Panorel took the measure of the best band starting during the day when he led by a comfortable margin throughout the running of the fourth race. The El Oro geldings success was popular, as he ruled a pronounced choice. Salvage and Cress Maid were always In closest pursuit of the winner, but the later had the most in reserve for the final drive end secured second place honors in a hard drive. After contesting the leadership closely and alternating in the lead at various stages of the race. Flying Lula scored a head victory-over Southern Pacific in the fifth race, principally because jockey Pevic outfinished jockey W. Kcmpf in the final drive. Padlock wes a creditable third for the entire race. Another close finish came at the end of the seventh, in which Florida Castle just got up in the last few yards to head Equity, the pacemaker. Arden. which was a keen factor to th:- Stretch, tired as if a trifle short, but saved third. After opening up a long lead in the early stages of the sixth race. Hank Monk tired so badly in the stretch run that he was hard pressed near the end to retain a slight lead over Blue Caddie. Tom Hayes was third because jockey Pevic, on Mason Towle, cut over on Subtle and Vasquez going to the first turn, causing interference to both, and Vasquez all but fell. An accident came as the horses were entering the track for the first race when Titter unseated jockey E. Burns and he suffered a broken leg. Jockey Primrose was substituted for Burns and the filly continued to act badly while at the post. The winner turned up in Betty Brown, the favorite, wdiich led Mally S. throughout and won handily. Peralta was best of the others. Clydella was closely pressed by Why in the early stages of the second race, but midway of the back stretch she drew away into a comfortable lead, which she retained to the end. B!ack Cyclone came from behind to beat the others ip the stretch for second. Taking command at once. Kendall never left the result in serious doubt after completing the first quarter of the third race. Ivy saved second place from the resolutely finishing Midday.
