BLUE BONNETS INAUGURAL Calm and Mud Stage Spectacular Finish in Kindergarten Stakes, Feature of Program. MONTREAL, Que.. June 1C— In a sensational finish in which the winner was under punishment in the last eighth, the Mount Royal Stables St. James filly Calm was winner of the Kindergarten Stakes at Blue Bonnets this afternoon when she defe: ted the Justa Farm Stables Mud by a head. A length and a half bac.t followed 10. F. San fords Brown Wizard, and then came W. S. Kilmers Sun o Chen. The Kindergarten Stakes was offered as a feature for the opening day of the Montreal Jockey Clubs first meeting at its beautiful course back of Mount Royal. A brilliant assemblage turned o-t and in point of numbers the crowd was one cf the largest to have witnessed a race over this track in recent years. Conditions were ideal for outdoor sport and with good racing in order an enjoyable after-" - noons sport was witnessed. The Kindergarten Stakes was run as the fourth race and brought a field of eleven youngsters to the post. There were two entries— V. S. Kilmer and YV. J. Salmon sending two to the post. Starter Cassidy was fortunate in getting a splendid start after the field had been at the post but two minutes. , At the conclusion of the Bine Bonnets meeting Joseph McLennan and David Gillies j will leave for Hamilton. Ont., where the former will fill the position of racing secretary and the latter of steward. Both Mr. McLennan and Mr. Gillies are receiving applications for stalls from the horsemen who contemplate racing at Hamilton. J. C. Fletchers Canadian-bred racer Per-lapides [ was excused from starting in the Hallucination Purse on the report of the track veterinarian that the horse was unloaded with a slight fever. . Trainer Joe Johnson, who is looking after the horses that Messrs. Sanford and Fleisch-man are racing on the Canadian circuit, received an important addition to his stable in the three-year-old Alans Bay, which was claimed by his employers at Aqueduct.
