LATONIA, Ky., June 21.— Sea Scamp and Dinner Dance, the good pair of four-year-olda in the stable of R. S. Clark, New York sportsman, completed a double for that owner when they succeeded in accounting for tha best races on todays fine Latonia program. Earl Pool, the stable rider, rode them in their winning races, over a heavy track. Sea Scamps easy win was scored in the Beech Hill Purse, over one mile and seventy yards, which was offered as the fifth race. He raced coupled with Promotion and the entry was much neglected in the speculation on the race. He won from Broadside, a recent arrival from Fairmount Park, while Tempest was third. Dinner Dance outran Don Diego, Krick and three other good ones in the Grandin Road Purse, the sixth race. His triumph added to the meagre score of the favorites. Pool rode well on both horses and his skillful riding aided them greatly. In the first five-eighths of the Beech Hill Purse he rated Sea Scamp back of the early pace set by Broadside and forced by the faint-hearted War Feathers and, when ready in the stretch, sent his mount through several narrow openings in getting to Broadside after the latter had drawn clear. Sea Scamps disposal of Broadside was very decisive and he got to the finish with a length and a half to spare over the Combs racer. In a close finish for third place Tempest beat Bonaire tor that position. SUITED BY THE GOING. The heavy footing suited Dinner Dance and he wasted little time duplicating his recent winning performance under almost similar conditions in the renewal of the Quickstep Handicap. Pool rode him well as he sped over the first three-eighths. Dinner Dance raced along easily until the last sixteenth, where he began tiring and but for swerving in behind him Don Diego might have beaten him. Don Diego had a like advantage over Krick, which was required to make up much ground with a belated rush after Garner had taken her back in the first quarter. Sea Scamp ran the mile and seventy yards in 1 :50 and Dinner Dance three-quarters in 1:16%. Occasional showers made conditions a trifle worse than the previous day and prevented the heavy track from improving. But for the rain the track no doubt would have been much improved over night, but the drenching it received today makes chances for a fast .track for Saturdays Derby running remote. Despite the unfavorable weather a crowd of good proportions was out to witness the decision of the best week-day program that has been offered during the meeting. The overthrow of several outstanding favorites marked the racing. BLACK FI.YEU IMPROVKD. Showing a return to better form. A. L Fergusons Black Flyer, ridden by S. Stretton and the outsider in the betting, sprinted to an easy win over a band of three-year-olds in the three-quarters race that was the initial i offering. Prince Bulbo was second and Little Torch third. Everlasting and Royal Pennant shared public" favoritism. Black Flyer raced from behind the pace when ready and the considerable lead he gained soon after reaching the stretch was retained to the finish. Considering that he was much used racing Everlasting into de- " feat as they fought doggedly for the early lead. Prince Bulbo held on fairly well and led Little Torch by two lengths at the finish. Everlasting tired badly, while Royal Pen- . nant, after being outrun to the stretch, closed a big gap to finish fourth. Nicaragua, racing coupled with Big Gun in the Audley Farm Stables colors, proved the easiest kind of a winner from Tommy, San-torio and other maiden juveniles in the sec-. ond race. The winner headed the others for the entire five and a half furlongs and had a margin of three lengths over Tommy at the finish. Santorio took third as the result of a fine rush through the stretch. The successful entry ruled an overwhelming choice. The third race, at one mile, resulted in the defeat of one of the shortest priced favorites of the meeting when the Parkview Stables • Royal Omar was unplaced. His failure to " finish among the first three made his show-1 ing the most disappointing possible. The - winner turned up in Harned Bros McCulloch, f which J. Heupel had in front almost for the 0 entire race. He scored in a driving finish 1 and by a half length from Juel Jean, with 1 Kunanolf a distant third. I Another choice was unplaced when My Hobby, Classy, and St. Ignatius led Mirano J home in the fourth race, fashioned for top • grade juvenile platers and having seven ac- Conlinucd on twenty-fourth pago. DOUBLE FORR.S.CLARK Continued from first page. ceptances. Merano, after racing in nearest pursuit of the leading and victorious My Hobby to the final eighth, tired badly and finished the five and a half furlongs more than two lengths back of the winner. He was beaten by a half length for third and Classy had but a nose to spare over St. Ignatius in landing second honors. The latter raced extremely wide for the entire race and a saving of ground might have permitted him to reach the winner. My Hobby raced in the interests of the Southland Stable, winch has experienced much success dming the meeting. T. J Abiams has taken over to train the horse Lardi, owned by P. Dolan. R. S. Clark s Wisdom and possibly Dinner Dance and K. B. McLeans Greenock were to be shipped tonight to Arlington Park for the purpose of participating in the Rush Handicap there Saturday.
