POLLARD COLORS PROMINENT Score Double Victory on Slow Track at Collinsville. ♦ Jockey A. Tiner Shares Triumph by Piloting Crispie Seth mill Gold Mint— Latter "Wins by Nose. • COLLINSVILLE, 111., Juno 21. -facing over a slow track was the order at Fair-mount Park this afternoon when seven claiming races were scheduled, which attracted the less capable variety of racers. The offering provided lacked everything in the nature of an outstanding feature, but nevertheless highly entertaining sport resulted, with closely contested and strenuously fought finishes. Favorites performed with reasonable success and made for a favorable day for the form players. The afternoons outstanding occurrence was the accomplishment by the Mrs. R. Pollard horses, which scored a*double victory for the day, the Pollard silks being carried by winners of the second and fifth races, the fifth serving as the best race. Crispie Sth accounted for the Pollard victory in the second race with A. Tiner up, and then jockey Tiner rounded out a double for himself and Mrs Pollard wh?n he piloted the four-year-old j j sprinter Gold Mint to another victory in the fifth race at three-quarters mile. Gold Mint, rulii g an odds-on choice, was the shortest priced winner of the afternoon and was in the van in his race at all stages, making every post a winning one. His victory was of the lucky variety, in as much as he only just succeeded in lasting under extremely hard riding on the part of Tiner to outfinish Adventuress by a nose. Adventuress was easily best for second place and would probably have been the winner in a few strides more. Tempter accounted for the third end of the purse. Brownell Combs Gaineswood was winner of the race, which opened the sport, the three-year-old Chicle gelding taking kindly to the five and a half furlongs dash over slow racing strip. Gaineswood was an easy winner in advance of Betty Browning and was being eased up at the end by the diminutive M. Knight after having the race well in hand through the last three-sixteenths. Gaineswood was a strong favorite and gave the backers of the short priced ones an auspicious start. Betty Browning raced her way up into second place when in the stretch and drew out to lead home Polar Sea by six lengths. Polar Sea, which landed third, suffered an unlucky break at the start when, after taking his first strides and rhowing in front for an instant, he stumbled awkwardly and went down to his knees, almost pitching D. Smith from the saddle. Before he recovered the ohers were well away and he was relegated to last place. However, Polar Sea gamely settled into his stride again when righted by Smith and he proceeded to steadily close up an immense gap on the leaders, and was up in the final eighth to outrace and outfinish the tiring early leader, Bill Joyce, for third place. Mrs. R. Pollards three-year-old filly Crispie Seth finally managed to stick it out to win in a sprinting dash, which came second on the program, also a dash of five and a half furlongs. Crispie Seth also carried much the most of the public money, and made it two victories in a row for the backers of the favorites. The winner began well and, with her customary display of the most early speed, was hustled away into a strong lead in first half mile. Then, holding on better than usual in the final drive, Crispie Seth was hard ridden and booted in by the apprentice A. Tiner, but she was tiring fast at the end and only succeeded to outlast Idealia by a neck. Idealia was in forward pursuit of the leader at all stages forcing a good pace and it was her that almost succeeded in wearing the winner down at the end, though she herself just lasted for second place, defeating Sheriff Seth by a narrow margin. Sheriff Seth found racing room on the inside in the stretch and, racing along the inner rail, closed a good gap on the leaders and got up to out-game Isabella for the minor award.
