JOE ENGEL raced forwardly on the inside to the stretch turn, then challenged OAKLAND and out-finished the latter. OAKLAND showed much the most early speed, but came wide into the stretch 1 and was swerving out in the final drive. DARE DEYIL farced the early pace, raced SAMBO G. into defeat and finished gamely. TRUMPET saved ground on the inside and got up to outfinish SAMBO G. The latter showed speed to the stretch, then tired. ETHEL GALLIGER; suddenly improved, showed much the most speed and. holding ALTURA safe. won by a safe margin. ALTERA raced in closest pursuit and offered repeated challenges, but was outpaced. FOCIS began in close quarters, but gained steadily while racing on the inside and closed a gap. TEMPTER had to race on the outsice and ran well to the stretch, but tired. TANGLEFOOT began gaining fast in the last quarter and was wearing down IBBSR CARET at the end. BARE KNEES was outpaced and tired. SMILING GlS was well back of the leaders for the first three-quarters, then, rapidly closing a big gap on the outside, got up for second plate. MLKNES passed PLYING TORCH and WILLIE K. into the lead in the stretch, but tired and was outfinished. FLYING TORCH set a fast pace for the first three-quarters before tiring.
