i FINALE AT BLUE BONNETS . ♦ Montreal Jockey Clubs Spring Meeting Ends in Blaze of Glory. 4 Snnflre Carries R. T. Wilsons Colors to Half-Length Victory Over Snn Friar in ,000 Windsor Hotel Cnp Handicap. — — • — MONTREAL, Que., June 23.— The June meeting of the Montreal Jockey Club, which came to a close at Blue Bonnets thi3 afternoon, wound up in a veritable blaze of glory. A splendid program was provided for the occasion, and Montreal race-goers responded in generous fashion, the attendance being the largest of the meeting. There were several attractions, but the big feature event was the running of the Windsor Hotel Cup Handicap, a dash of a mile and an eighth. The club added ,000 and a handsome silver cup, which went to the owner of the winner. There were seven starters. Polls, Bucky Harris, Patricia J., Sun Roman and Harry Baker being withdrawn. R. T. Wilson furnished the winner in his Olambala colt Sunfire, which finished half a length in front of Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Friar. Three lengths further back was Frank Bastones Leonard B., and then followed C. R. Fleischmans Euphrates. Mrs. F. Ambrose Clarks Broom Whisk, which was ridden by the gentleman jockey, G. H. Bost-,vick, was fifth. The start was a good one, and Barnes rushed Leonard B. to the front and, in the run around the first turn, opened up a commanding lead. Sun Friar was second, Seths Hope third, and Sun Fire, slow to begin, was fifth. Leonard B. still had a long lead at the half-mile ground and appeared to bo going easily. Sunfire was still fifth and at this stage his chances looked none too good. Schaefer was sitting still and not until rounding the far turn did he challenge. When called on, Sunfire responded nobly and, gradually improving his position, was a contender at the top of the stretch, to come to the outside. Leonard B. shot his bolt at this stage and Sun Friar passed him. Inside the eighth post, Sunfire caught Sun Friar, and Craigmyle, on the latter, was waving his whip in front of Sunfire and bearing out. He carried Sunfire out with him, but the latter, with splendid courage, headed the Kilmer representative, and the finish found him going away. The winner ran the mile and an eighth in 1 :52, which equaled the track record for the distance. The success of the meeting was in a great measure due to the efforts of secretary Ange-vine, who did some excellent missionary work, and also to Joseph ZlcLennan, who acted as racing secretary.
