GETAWAY DAY AT WINDSOR » * Fairy Maiden Outstays Irish Marine 5 in Feature Contest. • Consistent Kin? Carter Adds One More rurse to Faming by Winning Fourth Race— Clock Golf Best. — - * WINDSOR. Ont., June 23.— One of the largest crowds that has ever attended the Windsor Jockey Club races was on hand today for the get-away days program. The track • was lightning fast and good time was made in the majority of the races. While there was no outstanding feature, it was a well-balanced program that racing secretary Henry arranged. The finishes in most cases were of the close and spirited nature. The nearest approach to a feature was the fifth race, which brought out seven of the better grade platers to race one mile and seventy yards. VV. Maher, the Miami sportsman, furnished the winner in Fairy Maiden, sterling four-year-old daughter ot Gnome — •Tuscan Maiden. Irish Marine, which races in the interest of Mascia Brothers, and one of the most consistent performers here, turned in another sa; kling effort to land second place, while the Trover Stables recent acquisition, Rhyme and Reason, finished third. W. Harvey had the mount on the Maher representative and reserved her back of Irish Marine and Rhyme and Reason, which were battling head and head for the leadership on the back stretch. On the far turn Harvey sent Fairy Maiden up on the outside raced to the front after passing the quarter post, and continued to draw away through the last eighth, to win with something in reserve. Irish Marine, which had been in the forefront from the start, disposed of the Trover Stables three-year-old and continued with rare gameness, but wa*s no match for the winner. Rhyme and Reason also ran well. Maidens furnished the entertainment in the first race. W. Woolmans McXamee graduated in easy fashion, with The Third Prince second and Jim Banola third. Chalmers rated McXamee along in back of Tony Ruiz for the first quarter, which was run in the fast time of :22%. When called upon, leaving the back stretch, the Woolman three-year-old took a good lead and increased his margin until at the finish three lengths separated him from The Third Prince. Clock Golf, five-year-old imported son of Argos — Lawn Dance, which races for Mrs. W. J. Giblin, took the second race, a sprint of five and a half furlongs. H. E. Browns Little Broom raced to second place, while Tommy Foster was third. A mile and a half for platers that prefer a long distance was the fourth offering. King Carter was returned the winner, winning easily from Dontaria, with Spring in . third place. King Carter was ridden by H. Howard, and. incidentally, allowed that rider to score his first win of the Canadian season. Reserved back of the pace for the first three-quarters, King Carter took an easy lead when called upon, continued with good speed to the end and was never menaced. Dentaria made an effort to get to the leader leaving the back stretch, but was always held safe. Spring finished determinedly b"t was never able to reach the leaders. The winner was installed the favorite and his victory was an immensely popular one.
