SHOWERY sprinted away into a long lead at once, but began tiring in the final eighth and had to be roused up sharply to withstand the rush of GLACIAL. The latter raced in closest pursuit, but was badly outpaced for the first half mile, then .finished gamely and was wearing the winner down gradually. NOIHETTE began slowly and was forced to race en the outside for the entire way, but finished gamely after making up much ground. SUNMETA showed speed. PAINTY MAID had no mishaps. SEA LADY, far back in the early running and saving ground where possible, came through on the Inside of the leaders in the stretch and. finishing gamely, got up to win in the final stride. GNOME SECOND raced forwardly. moved up to the leaders when called on and took a brief lead, but tired in the final sixteenth. ALTISSIMO finished with a rush through the last half mile. ROYAL FLAG, closer up than usual, tired in the final drive. CIVILITY took a good early lead, but quit. SOTERIA ran poorly. Overweights — Gnome Second. 1 pound: Koyal Flag, 1; Civility, 4. CONTEMPLATE, close up from the start, came on the outside when called on and wore PLEDGE down to g*-t up to win in the last fifty yards. PLEDGE forced a good pace and, passing BALAI DOK into the lead, raced gamely when challenged. PON ETTA raced close up throughout, but had to be ridden hard to outfinish EVER MOKE. The latter began fast, but was outpaced. NICK CCLLOP lacked eaiy speed, but finished resolutely. BALAI DOR quit badly. TKOUTLET. saved for the first five-eighths, made her move after catering the home stretch and finished fast and gamely. BEAD OF THE WEST raced into the lead under restraint and saved ground on all the turns, but tired. TAURUS raced well. IIANNA DEEBE suffered from interference on the first turn. POLLS was not hjirried when BROOM WHISK went into tie lead, but was reserved until reaching the far "turn, where he responded with good courage to wear KOYAL WATCH down, and drew out in the final eighth. ROYAL WATCH moved to the leaders with a rush when called on, assumed command momentarily and held on well during the final stages. MII.AKIA in close quarters when rounding the first turn, was shaken up sharply, but dropped out of contention and was never a factor thereafter. KOIXI q;i t bRdly under punishment.
