DARK PHANTOM FAILS « . Favorite in Feature at Arlington Park Finishes Third. • • Inquisitor Scores, With Adamas Second — Good Weather Prevails for First Time in ilany Days. • ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., Juno 26.— Dark Phantom, racing for J. N. Camden, was an outstanding disapptlntment at Arlington Tark today. She failed badly in the feature race, over three-quarters mile, in which she started with some good sprinters, including Inquisitor and Adamas, both leading her home, with Inquisitor an easy winner. Inquisitor was favored by the light weight and also displayed a liking for the going that prevailed. The start found the six contenders on almost even terms, but Dark Phantom failed to begin in full stride and was in last place during the first sixteenth. Adamas and Inquisitor were quickest to settle fully into stride and they moved away from the others into a commanding lead. Dark riiantom raced close up after the first quarter and for a while promised to head the leaders, but just as Inquisitor downed Adamas she tired and this left Inquisitor to come away as his rider pleased, with Adamas not seriously pressed for second place. Dark Phantom continued in third place to the end. Sunshine, the first in ten days in these parts, improved conditions at Arlington Park and served as an aid in increasing the attendance. The track, however, was in the worst shape it has been in during this period of racing and considerable difficulty was experienced in filling the races for "Wednesday. The racing was of routine order, the winners in most instances foreshadowing their successes by moving into long leads before the final eighth was reached. [VII VICTORY. The colors of Stanley Kunz. which now-days are seldom seen in victory, earned success for the first time this year when Majeste was home in front a short margin before Her Answer. The combination of having the best of the send-off and the faulty handling of Her Answer, were the main contributing causes in Majestes success. He led for the entire way. Her Answer, after being taken back repeatedly, lost what advantage he had secured with Majeste at the start and had to be urged steadily and strongly during the stretch to keep in close contact with the winner. Hal Side Guy finished in third place, while the J. Lehmann pair, Crack Willow and Metronome, after getting away tardily, failed to race prominently. C. A. Bornhardts recently acquired Hand Or was made the favorite in the second race, which brought out juveniles to race five and a half furlongs. His supporters were not over enthused when he got the better of jockey Pichon while going to the post and raced three-eighths at top speed. In the race he figured briefly and was completely eliminated after half a mile. Haymaker, carrying the Valley Lake Stables colors, showed fine speed to race promptly into the lead and maintain a slight advantage throughout, beating home the poorly ridden Billy Basil, which in turn downed Hidden Thoughts for second place. FAVORITE SCORES. Capistrano, well supported favorite, made a runaway of the third race and won with consummate ease as his rider pleased from Roycrofter, with Take a Chance just managing to land in third place. The winner was away forwardfy and in full motion, increased his advantage with every stride and it was only a question in the stretch of how far his rider would elect to win by. Take a Chance was closest to Capistrano during the early racing, but began tiring fast when the stretch was reached and steadily gave way to Roycrofter. The mile race, over the inner course, resulted in a easy victory for John J. S. over Kthel Sherlock, with Bad Buck just managing to beat Bearing after a hard drive for third place. The winner here was much the best, moved up fast when his rider, R Dog-gett, called on him to, and drew by Ethel Sherlock, the leader, decisively in the stretch. Ethel Sherlock went out in business-like style to attain a lead of five lengths in the first half mile, but was not good enough for the winner. Levoy, a well supported one, tired badly before three-quarters of the race was concluded and finished in last place. Ball Gee, a pronounced favorite, was a disappointment in the sixth race. He failed to get part of the purse. The winner turned up in Wildrake, which came steadily in the stretch and got up in the last few strides to wear down Knave of Clubs. The latter would have won but for being raced through the deeper going in the stretch. Sanction showed a good effort to finish in third place. Mollie Dear showed a sudden recovery of speed in contrast to her performance in her ItfeviouA race when she was soundly beaten. She won the final race from Sweet Mandy, with Far Away in third place. Sweet Mandy was probably best, but Pichon raced her wide, whereas Mollie Dear stayed close to the inner rail. Isoard, the favorite in the race, was pinched out of it at the start and was given a poor ride by the diminutive Kelly,
