RECONSTRUCT "CANAL TURN" LONDON, England. Aintrees famous "Canal turn," the bugbear of many Grand National "hopes," is to be. reconstructed. With a view to removing possible sources of trouble to competitors, the Liverpool executive, after consultation with the stewards, has decided to fill up the ditch in front ot the canal fence and to extend the length of the obstacle by twenty feet. The public stand, which hitherto has faced this fence, is being removed to the right of it, and is to be placed at a different angle. Hitherto the falls which have been recorded at the "canal" each season have been due to the nearness of the jump to the awkward bend which at this pc:it has to be negotiated by the field. After jumping a most difficult obstacle, comprising a rail, ditch, and fence, there is a sharp right-angled turn which must be taken almost at full speed; as the jockey must continue to push his mount while on this bend in order to get it to take the next obstacle, which is the famous Valentines Book, a fence, rail and brook.
