Y., June 28.— Racing here at the beautiful Saratoga course, aplty styled the "Ascot of America," has always been featured by a great array of richly endowed and important stake fixtures. This year will be no exception in that respect; in fact, there are thirty-eight stake events, one more than last year, down for decision during the thirty-day meeting of the Saratoga Association for the Improvement of the Breed of Horsos, which opens on July 30 and continues until September 1, inclusive. One of last years stakes, the Post Handicap, a ,000 added money prize for three-year-olds and upward, similar as to conditions to the Grab Bag Handicap for two-year-olds, has been dropped, but two new events have =~ Q been added. These new fixtures are the American i Legion Handicap and the Whitney Stakes. The first mentioned will be decided on August 4, the same day that the United States Hotel Stakes and Miller Stakes are to be run. The American .Legion Handicap has an added value of ,000 and the plate of ?100. It is for three-year-olds and upward and will be decided over the one mile distance. The Whitney Stakes, a memorial to Payne Whitney, one of the pillars of American racing, who died suddenly last year, will be run on August 11, the date also tor the North American Steeplechase and Saratoga Special Stakes. The Whitney Stakes has ,000 and plate added, and is for three-year-olds and upward, at one mile and a quarter. For opening day, Monday, July 30. the famous old Saratoga Handicap and the Flash Stakes are the inaugural features. On each Saturday of the meeting three stake events will be decided, the 0,000 Hopeful Stakes, richest of all Saratoga fixtures, being reserved for closing day, September 1.
