COYNE TRAINING BIG BAND Widener String at Belmont Includes Sixteen Juveniles Osmand Heads String-. NEW YORK, N. Y.; March 31. Sixteen two-year-olds and five older horses comprise the stable which Pete Coyne has in training for J. E. Widener at Belmont Park. The horses arrived from the farm a month earlier than usual, but will not be raced until the opening of the Belmont Park meeting. The two-year-olds are mostly home-breds and in the lot Haste is represented by three. This is the first crop of that young sire to be raced and the youngsters give promise. Nine colts and seven fillies make up the total. They are on the whole a promising looking band and have been well named. Osmand. Curate, Bagatelle, Balmoral and Mr. Sponge are the older horses. Bagatelle and Balmoral never started. Curate is, according to horsemen, a nice type of the thoroughbred. Osmand wintered exceptionally well and is not far from racing condition. He will be pointed for the Toboggan Handicap, one of the opening day features of the Westchester Racing Association. Melvin Knight has been signed as the stable rider, but it is more than likely that Ear! Sande will be seen astride the top weights of the stable. Sande is working out each morning and rapidly getting into riding condition. The two-year-olds, with their breeding, follow : Christmas, b. g. by Haste Joyful.
