AMERICAN DERBY LIST1, J One Hundred and Sixty-Nine Nominations for Famous Race. Total of 853 Entries for Seven . Feature Stakes of "Washington Park 1930 Meeting. i The American Derby of 1930 closed with 169 nominations, nineteen more than for the Kentucky Darby. Among the increased number of entries are the crack pair of H. P. .Whitney stars, Whichone and Boojum, which were not named for the Churchill Downs "classic." It may be that Chicago patrons Of racing will have an opportunity to see one or both of Mr. Whitmys juvenile stars of last year among the contestants in the American Derby, providing they stand training. The mere fact that these two colts were entries in "Washington Parks feature race and not in the Kentucky Derby is a strong indication that Mr. "Whitney and trainer Tom Hcaley are at least hopeful that the celebrated young racers will have profited by a long rest and successfully respond to training such as is necessary for a gruelling Derby contest. IM103IINENT NOMINATORS. - The owners of other three-year-olds are not discouraged by the presence of the Whitney horses, for every winner of a stake last year, and the various contenders in these stakes, are all entered. Mrs. Graham Fair Vander-bilt has Desert Light and Sarazen II., and in the list will be "found Mr. Woodwards Gallant Fox; Gifford Cochrans Flying Heels; the Valley Lake Stables High Foot; Audley Stables Gallant Knight ; Hal Price Headleys Alcibiades ; Greyola, winner of the Agua Caliente Derby ; W. P. Coes Caruso and five others ; Everglade Stables Dedicate ; Marshall Fields Phalanx ; Walter Jef fords Armageddon; Knebelkamp and Morris Lightning Jones; E. B. McLeans Crossbones; Harry Sinclair makes nine entries ; Walter Salmon has Perfect Play and three others ; M. L. Schwartz has Quarter Deck and three others ; Seagram Stables Sweet Sentiment and four others ; Three Ds Stock Farm has Broadway Limited and Kilkerry ; P. M. Walker has Royal Panoply, Brown Trap and Brown Erin ; William Ziegler, Jr. enters Gone Away and Spinach. A total of 853 entries were received for the seven stake races to be run at Washington Park this year. The Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap, at one mile and a quarter, with 0,000 added, closed with 111 nominations. The list includes Roguish Eye and Karl Eitel, Blackwood, Clyde Van Dusen, Chicago and Windy City, African, Ben Machree, Mike Hall, Sun Beau, Misstep, Whiskery, Toro, Jock, Flat Iron, Martie Flynn and McGonigle, Paul Bunyan, The Nut, Diavolo, Royal Julian, Dowagiac. AH the leading handicap horses of America are entered and many of the three-year-olds will take a chance in this stake. ILLINOIS OAKS ENTKIES. The Illinois" Oaks, at one mile and an eighth, with 0,000 added, closed with eighty-three nominations. Greyola, winner of the Agua Caliente i Derby, is entered, so is Alcibiades ; Harry I Sinclair enters seven fillies ; Harry Payne Whitney, four. In fact, every three-year-old filly, with any pretention to class, has been entered for the Oaks. The Washington Park Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, three-quarters, with ,000 added, closed with 101 nominations. The Thomas Curran Memorial, for two-year-old colts and geldings, with ,000 added, closed with 150 nominations. The Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap, one mile and an eighth, for three-year-olds and over, closed with 104 nominations. The Debutante Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, at five and a half furlongs, closed with 132 nominations. Colonel Winn has contracted for new stables and is making many other improvements at Washington Park. The spring meeting begins May 26 and continues thirty days. The American Derby will be run on Saturday, June 14. With the best horses in America entered and with every comfort and luxury provided its patrons, Washington Park is justified in looking forward to a record breaking meeting.
