LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 5 Harry Payne Whitneys Derby candidate Niato, an eligible for the Kentucky Oaks, showed the fastest three-quarters o the morning at Churchill Downs, when she worked with Snooze in 1:14. This filly raced all winter in New-Orleans and has an edge on the other Derby candidates that laid up during the cold .weather season. The Downs was in excellent condition, the recent rains serving to pack the soil and making it fast. J. N. Camdens Sydney made a splendid move when he went a mile in 1:48, going the first half in :5l, three-quarters iri 1:17, seven-eighths in 1:31, and easing up the final eighth. Slose Lowenstein gave the Le Mar Stables Derby colt Maudlin, a mile in 1:48. He went the first half in :53. five-eighths in 1:08 and three-quarters in 1:21. Make Haste and Raybourn paced Maudlin for the first three-quarters. Roll Em Down showed trainer Jim Ever-man a good move of a mile in 1 :48, cased up. All Upset and Playtime, the Southland Stables pair for the Classic, were sent seven-eighths and cased up a mile in 1:51. Playtime outran his stable companion for the first half mile, but All Upset took the track thereafter and was two lengths in front of Playtime at the seven-eighths post. The fractional time was :12, :24, :3G, :50, 1:19 and 1:35. "Willie Crump worked Stock Market, the Derby prospect of .T. "W. Parrish, who was on hand with J. H. Rouse to witness the trial. He went to the half mile in company with Rich Widow in :52, 1:20 and 1:4S for the mile. Bryant Ott breezed The Senator, in company with Col. McCart, a slow half mile in :55. JBilly Champ was one of the late Derby candidates to work, but he showed a sparkling performance for six furlongs when he breezed with Pretty Pose in 1:10. This representative of the Warm Stable for the Classic was timed the half in :40 and five furlongs in 1 :03. C. Bruce Head, general manager of Lincoln Fields, will return to Chicago on Sunday for a- conference with Col. M. J. Winn in regard to any needed improvements to be made at the Windy City track. Ginger Red, a three-year-old by Col. Vcn-nie Lady Hourless, belonging to Willard Wilson of Birmingham, broke his right fore shoulder while working with Bellsmith Friday, and trainer Jack Weaver will have the horse put out of his misery by the administering of chloroform.
