RESERVES TWENTY STALLS C. E. Durnell Plans Arlington Park Campaign for July. Veteran Training Horses for Griffin Watkius, W. S. Dudley, Mrs. T. J. Regan and Olto Berg. Griffin Watkins, millionaire shoe manufacturer of Illinois and Missouri, is the best represented of the horsemen in whose behalf Charles E. Durnell has reserved twenty stalls at Arlington Park for the July racing of the Arlington Park Jockey Club. The others are W. S. Dudley,. Mrs. Thomas J. Regan and Otto Berg. Durnell, who has had marked success on both sides of the Atlantic as a trainer, one of his early American employers having been the late John W. Gates, Chicagos picturesque stock market operator, is training his horses at Louisville. He has sent word to Roy Carruthers that his two-year-olds, which constitute the main strength of the stable, will not be ready for their best before July and he is not hurrying them. Last year and for two or three years before Durnell trained the horses of W. T. Waggoner, who paid ,000 at Saratoga for a yearling by Man o War Starflight that failed to win last year under the name of Broadway Limited. Durnell left the employ of Waggoner last fall because of a disagreement with the Texans sons, E. P. and G. R. Waggoner. It is with youngsters acquired as yearlings last August at the Saratoga sales that Durnell expects to accomplish the most for Wat-kins in this years racing. A great believer in Broadway Limited, in spite of the failure of that son of Man o War to shine last season, Durnell paid 2,000 for his half brother by Sir Gallahad III., which Watkins has named Jusco. Adm. Cary T. Grayson, one of the Arlington Park stewards, bred both Broadway Limited and Jusco at his stud in Virginia, but sold Broadway Limited the summer before last through that master salesman Phillip T. Chinn. Starflight is a sister of E. R. Bradleys famous North Star III., sire of Boot to Boot, Bubbling Over, Blossom Time, Busy American and others. PURCHASES FOR WATKINS. Durnells other purchases for Watkins account were a bay colt by Sun Briar Hawks-head, recently named Briar Hawk, for 3,-500 ; a bay colt by Black Toney North Wind, named Toney Star, for ,700 ; a chestnut colt by High Time Flying Star, named Harry Frank, for S4.G00, and a chestnut filly by Campfire rHurry Home, named Charlote H., for . The older members of the string are Ada M., a three-year-old daughter of Sweep and Lacerta, and Helen M., a four-year-old daughter of The Finn and Laeerta. Briar Hawk, acquired at the sale of Willis Sharpe Kilmers yearlings from the Court Manor Stud, whence came both Reigh Count and Sun Beau, is a splendid type. He is a half brother of Gift Hawk and Mountain Gift and of the famous female family of Which-one and Mother Goose, Atheling II., and Hurry On, the last named sire of the British Derby winner Call Boy. Toney Stars dam, North Wind, is too young to have acquired fame as a brood mare. She is only 8. But she is well-bred, being a half sister of Sweetheart, Tuskegee, Holiday, Mason Towle, Lotus and Commotion. Black Tcney has attained celebrity as the sire of Black Servant, sire of Blue Larkspur ; Black Gold, Broadway Jones, Black Maria, Miss Jemima. Captain Hal, Befuddle, Beau Butler, Black Majesty and others. Harry Frank, bought at Arthur B. Hancocks vendue, is a half brother of Gotta Gonow, Flying Sweep, Fading Star and Feiry Flight. Hurry Home is a half sister of Busy American, Resting Time and Sun Hawk. LEADING-FEMININE PRODUCER. Mrs. Regans representative is Foreign Exchange, a son of Epinard and Money Mart, which she bid in at her sale at Saratoga last August for 1,000. One of the leading feminine producers of thoroughbreds in the country, Mrs. Regan has the distinction of having sold the costliest thoroughbred yearling ever sold. Two years ago at Saratoga she received 5,000 from C. V. B. Cushman for a son of Whisk Broom II. Payment and half brother of Spot Cash. This was -New Broom. A training accident prevented his making good last season, but Cushman believes he is going to make a good three-year-old. New Broom is a prospectve starter in the second Arlington Classic, which may again decide the three-year-old championship, as did the first Classic last July. Foreign Exchange claims for dam a half sister of the celebrated Artful, Futurity winner of 1904 and conqueress of Ort Wells and Beldame in the Brighton Handicap of 1905. Two of Mr. Dudleys group of seven are Jeanne D. and Bertrand, respectively, a filly and a colt by Phalaios from Pretty Politician and Buttercup. Phalaros, an imported son of the famous Phalaris, is at the head of the Waggoner Stud in Texas. Another youngster, Battlesweep, a colt by Sweep from Ypres II. cost ,G00 at one of A. B. Hancocks sales last August. The three-year-olds are Miss Mayes and Miss Plunger, daughters of Craig an Eran and War Fame. There are also the veterans Miss Charlie and Normana. Otto Berg contributes Chilly Flight, a bay colt by Chilhowee, Latonia Championship winner and holder of the American record of 2:54 for one mile and three-quarters.
