NEW YORK TRACKS MUDDY Odom Works Marshall Field-Gerry Horses Under Cover. -1 -Get of Stimulus llenses Owner and Trainer 31 arcs at Delhi Farm Late iu 1 Foaling. NEW YORK, N. Y., April S. A muddy trade, coupled with unseasonable weather conditions, disrupted training operations on the three Long Island tracks yesterday morning. The sudden drop in temperature, coupled with a high, biting, cold wind, which later in the morning brought on snow flurries, forced trainers at Belmont Park to curtail their schedules to absolute needs. There were few horses on the main and training tracks and as soon as the required exercise was finished, they rushed indoors. The big stables confined their limbering up exercise to indoor jogs. The track was in wretched condition after the hard rains of Sunday night and the absence of sunshine. George Odom, with the Marshall Field-Ti. L. Gerry stable, gave the majority of his charges indoor work. The two-year-olds were ..not brought out in the open, although several "of the older horses were galloped over the training track. The mild coughing spell, which visited the horses in his stable some time back, has delayed him with his two-year-olds. He, however, is not going to rush them along. He has a big band in training and from word received from the farms of K. Ii. Gerry, at Delhi, N. Y., and Marshall Field, Lexington. Ky., his string for next year will be much larger. Reports state that forty yearlings, the property of both sports-.jnen, are at the farms and the majority of them are destined for early fall training. This number, in addition to the older horses, which he will retain, will be a formidable band. PLEASED "WITH STIMULUS. Odom is eagerly awaiting word from the different farms in regard to foals this spring. Present indications point to late foaling by the different brood mares. Seven of the mares "have already foaled, with thirteen more to hear from at the Marshall Field Farm, In the late lot is Nimba. She was mated to Stimulus and is due any day. Odom is .pleased with the showing of this young sire, now in his third year in the stud. The first crop of Stimulus to race showed up in pleasing fashion. He sent three two-year-olds to the post and each proved a winner. Hinda and Chosa at Havana, in care of Bill Mc-Knight, were not long in graduating from the maiden ranks, while Servitude, at Miami, completed the trio. The horses, which Odom raced in the winter, accounted for eight races, four at Havana and a like number at Miami. Stimulus is a chestnut horse, foaled in 1922 by Ultimus Hurakan, by Uncle, and will be represented by twenty-two sons and daughters this season. The majority of the two-year-olds will be raced by Odom under Marshall Fields colors. Those at Belmont Park, now in training, are Hinda, Captain Courageous, Servitude, Chosa, Aknahton and Mar-tinelli. The majority of these two-year-olds resemble their noted sire in coloi Chestnuts predominate, although Chosa and Martinelli are bays. 3IUCH IX DEMAXD. Stimulus was much in demand by outside breeders early this spring and several disap-. pointed breeders made reservations for next season. His book, however, is closed early and owner Marshall Field is not any too keen to breed him to outside mares. The mares selected are chosen to cross properly with the Stimulus blood. Stimulus was the outstanding two-year-old of his year, beaten by H. P. AVhitneys Mother Goose in the 1924 Futurity at Belmont Park by a short head. He journeyed to Pimlico and in a hard drive accounted for the Maryland Futurity over Star Lore. The race was thrilling to the end. Stimulus was retired to the stud early and mated with young mares. At the Marshall Field farm near Lexington he is the sire of foals from the following mares: "Virginia L.. Sea Dream, Widows Weeds, In Law and Maxima. Thirteen other mares, which were bred to him, are heavily in foal and are due. Chosa is training along satisfactorily after a short letup following her Havana campaign. She will likely be seen under colors at the Hunts meeting, which is to be held at Aqueduct. Hinda will be seen under colors later in the year. Odom is highly pleased with his two-year-olds, several of which have done all that has been asked of them in pleasing fashion. He will not ship any horses to Maryland this spring, but will start his campaign at Jamaica. High Strung, his reliance for the Paumonok. is going along steadily, while Sun Edwin will be reserved for the events over a longer distance. Both of these horses have been, named for the Metropolitan Handicap, while High Strung has also been named for the Toboggan, the opening sprint feature at Belmont Park.
