KENTUCKY OAKS ELIGIBLES Best of Fillies in Feature at Churchill Downs. Alcibladcs, Galaday, Greyola, Lucilc, Snow-flake and The Sparc Among Those "amcI. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April S. The Kentucky Oaks is regarded, in the West at least, as the fixture most apt to introduce to the turf world at large the queen which will reign over the three-year-old fillies for the current year. It has, indeed, introduced "queens of the turf" whose reign has lasted longer than a single season, such as Princess Doreen and Black Maria, and. last year its winner, in the judgment of many who followed her racing, might have proved as good as either of the two mentioned had not her career been cut short by death. This was Rose of Sharon. Rose of Sharon had already won an "Oaks," the Ashland, before starting in the Kentcky Oaks, but it was in the last the fifty-fifth running of this fixture, that the daughter of Light Brigade Rose Mundi for which her breeder. Senator J. N. Camden, refused a small fortune, proved that she was to be reckoned with by the best of her age of either sex. She took up the top burden of 121 pounds and defeated Lady Broadcast, Current, Ben Machree and several others of class. This years ranks of fillies include many that promise to do things in a large way, and practically all that are of note in western stables are to be found in the list of ninety nominations for the next running of the Oaks, This filly race is a test at a mile and an eighth. Its value of 0,000 added is sufficient to attract to the post the best that are so well advanced in their training as to be regarded fit for such a test. Here are some of the best of those that will probably be on hand this year ; Alcibiades, Greyola, Galaday, Capture, Lucile, Snowflake, Pansy Walker, Khara, Henriette Hardies, The Spare, Niato, Rich Widow and Black Mammy. It will be noted that in that list are several Kentucky Derby eligibles, but as fillies are not frequent starters in this Derby, all or most of them may be expected to be pointed for the Oaks instead. One of them, Greyola, has a winter Derby to her credit, that at Agua Caliente. It may be that this daughter of Grey Lag is to occupy the early spotlight that was Rose of Sharons last year. At any rate she will be given a lot of consideration if sh2 starts in the Oaks. Those that have been mentioned form only a small percentage of the field of nominees. The entire list, as released today from Churchill Downs, follows: KENTUCKY OAKS, 0,000. for three-year-old fillies. By subscription of 0 each; 00 additional to start. 0,000 added, of which ,000 to second, ,000 to third, fourth to save stake.
